#BoutofBooks – Day 2

The Bout of Books readathon is organized by Amanda Shofner and Kelly Rubidoux Apple. It’s a weeklong readathon that begins 12:01am Monday, August 17th and runs through Sunday, August 23rd in YOUR time zone. Bout of Books is low-pressure. All reading-in-place times, Twitter chats, and exclusive Instagram challenges are completely optional. For Bout of Books 29 information and updates, visit the Bout of Books blog. – From the Bout of Books team

I finished Proven Guilty by Jim Butcher, and even though it isn’t one of my current reads, I picked up The Seclusion by Jacqui Castle since it’s from my public library. Again, I wanted to keep reading, but had to get some sleep.

  • Time Read:  2 hours 52 minutes
  • Pages Read: 86
  • Books Finished: 1
  • Total Number of Books Read: 1

I read as much as I could of Proven Guilty by Jim Butcher. I wanted to read more, but I forced myself to be an adult and go to bed at a reasonable time so I wouldn’t be exhausted today.

Monday’s Minutes

“Monday’s Minutes” is a weekly post in which I track my bookish life.

Currently Reading:

  • A History of Reading by Alberto Manguel
  • The 13 1/2 Lives of Captain Bluebear by Walter Moers
  • Spying on the South by Tony Horwitz
  • Proven Guilty by Jim Butcher
  • This Savage Song by Victoria Schwab

Finished:

  • The Dante Club by Matthew Pearl

Total pages read this week: 215

Total books for the year: 47 of 85. Today begins #BoutofBooks 29 and I’m hoping to finish most of my current reads this week. There’s also a heatwave where I live, so I’ll be staying indoors as much as possible.

What are you reading?

This Bout of Books is going to be all about finishing the books on my Current Reads list. I’m at least halfway through all of them, and I’m hoping to start off the week after Bout of Books with a fresh list.

My Goals

  • Read.  Read.  Read.
  • Finish all of my current reads.
  • Start a new book from my TBR.

Books to Read

  • This Savage Song by Victoria Schwab
  • Proven Guilty by Jim Butcher
  • A History of Reading by Alberto Manguel
  • The 13 1/2 Lives of Captain Bluebear by Walter Moers
  • Spying on the South By Tony Horwitz
  • At least one book from my “TBR” bookshelf on Goodreads.

Updates

I will be posting an update each day with the amount of time I read, the number of pages read that day, and the titles of any of the books I’ve finished.

Are you participating in Bout of Books? Let me know in the comments!

#FitReaders Check-In

  • This check-in is for August 7th – 13th.
  • My step count is alarmingly low this week.  I don’t think that will improve much over the next week since there is a heatwave hitting this afternoon.
  • If you have a FitBit, you can find me HERE.
  • Active Days: 4/7
  • Steps: 19,214/40,000
  • Miles: 7.9
  • Total Miles: 350.92

Finished:

  • The Archived by Victoria Schwab

Total pages read this week: 865

Total books for the year: 46 of 85. The #ReverseReadathon was this weekend, and it was exactly what I needed, along with the two books I picked up from the library. I thought I would finish The Dante Club shortly after the readathon, but that didn’t happen. I have just over a hundred pages left, and I know I’ll finish it this week because I have another book to pick up from the library.

What are you reading?

Dewey’s 24-Hour #ReverseReadathon: Wrap-Up

We’ve made it through the Dewey’s 24-Hour #ReverseReadathon!

  • Total Pages Read: 494
  1. How would you assess your reading overall? I didn’t read a whole lot (about the same as the last Reverse Readathon) but I did get about three quarters of the way through The Dante Club by Matthew Pearl, and a little more than halfway through This Savage Song by Victoria Schwab. I’m probably going to finish The Dante Club before I go to bed tonight.
  2. Did you have a stategy, and if so, did you stick to it? Nope.  I winged it.
  3. What was your favorite snack? Frozen raspberries with half & half.
  4. Wanna volunteer for our next event? Maybe….

I’m really looking forward to the next readathon in October, especially since I’m already in the mood for darker stories.

Dewey’s 24-Hour #ReverseReadathon – Update

We’re now halfway through Dewey’s 24-Hour #ReverseReadathon!  I decided that I would rather read all day than fall asleep on the couch in the morning, so I went to bed around 10 pm, and got up at 4 am to catch up on the readathon posts by our lovely hosts.

  • Pages Read: 98
  • Books Read: The Dante Club by Matthew Pearl
  • Mini-Challenges: Pandemic Mood Booster
  • Yummy in my Tummy: Instead of eating dinner, I just snacked on some amazing treats from my favorite local bakery.

Until my final update and wrap-up post, at 5 pm PST, I’ll continue reading the The Dante Club and whatever other books grab me from my readathon shelf on Goodreads.

Whether you’re participating in the readathon or not, what book(s) are you currently reading?

Dewey’s 24-Hour #ReverseReadathon

Dewey’s 24-Hour Readathon has officially started! It’s another Reverse Readathon!  Since I’m in California, it’s 5 PM, and I’ve been up since 6 AM so I already know I won’t be staying awake the entire 24 hours (not that I won’t try).

Here are my answers to the Opening Survey:

  • What fine part of the world are you reading from today? I’m in Emeryville, CA.
  • Which book in your stack are you looking forward to the most?  I have too many books to decide which I looking forward to the most. I’ve bought so many books since the pandemic started that I feel like I’m in my own personal bookstore.
  • Which snack are you looking forward to the most? I have raspberries covered in half and half in the freezer for a sort of ice cream that I LOVE!
  • Tell us a little something about yourself!  Here are 20 somethings about myself from many years ago. Something sort of new about me is that I want to own and run a hobby farm someday, with lots of goats.
  • If you participated in the last readathon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today?  Since this is a more laid back readathon, I’m not going to try to stay awake for the entire 24 hours.  Instead, I’ll read until I can’t keep my eyes open or my mind on what I’m reading.

Here is a huge list of books on Goodreads that I want to read during this and future readathons. I’m very much a mood reader lately, and have trouble sticking to even 3 or 4 books at a time. Since this is a much more laid back readathon, my first update won’t be until 5 AM PST.  I’ll still be tracking how many pages I read and any books I finish, snacks I’ve nommed, and any musical earworms that have gotten into my head, but only every 12 hours instead of 8.

Whether you’re participating in the readathon or not, what book(s) are you currently reading?
