Come November gave me a lot of strong feels and brought up a lot of dark memories that made it pretty obvious that there are parts of my childhood I haven’t fully processed. Needless to say, it’s been a rough week for me, emotionally, so a Cozy Mystery and some Middle-Grade Fiction felt like just the kinds of books I need right now. I’ve been reading them in the afternoon and before bed instead of continuing to read the two mental health books I’ve been slowly making my way through in the morning.

Since I only have 4 books left to reach my goal for the year, and I typically read 6 or 7 books in a month, I’ve started listening to podcasts again instead of back-to-back audiobooks. I’m also doing some things in silence that I used to only do while listening to something (crocheting for example), in an attempt to give my brain a break. To top it off, I’m reading more Non-Fiction than I normally do, thanks to restarting the Miracle Morning practice, part of which involves reading books about whatever it is you want to work on. For me, that means my mental health, so I’m reading about that for 10 minutes each morning.

I’m feeling like I need to take it easy right now and not push myself to do anything, including reading anything “difficult.” I’m also trying to get back into taking care of myself a little better. A Cozy Mystery and a book about intentional living seemed like the perfect reads. On another note, I’ve put myself on a book-buying ban after realizing that I bought far more books than I read in the past couple of months, and I don’t have enough shelf space for all of them. My book-buying ban will last until I have room on my shelves, which might take me a while since I’m slowing down a bit.

Tomorrow is the last day of Readers Imbibing Peril, and I will have finished all of my current reads by the time I go to bed on Halloween. That will mean I finished 20 books for the challenge, which I think is the highest number of books I’ve ever read for RIP. I’m also down to the last few episodes of “Supernatural,” though I don’t think I’ll get to the end before tomorrow night. The Boyfriend and I watched the movie “Malevolent” last night, and “The Ritual” on Friday night. We’re planning to watch another horror movie of some kind tonight, though we don’t know what yet, and tomorrow night we’ll watch “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!” that I finally bought on DVD (thanks to it now only being available for streaming on AppleTV).

I’ve finished 10 books for Readers Imbibing Peril, and while I was stuck at home, I distracted myself from the pain I was in by watching several episodes of “Supernatural”. The Boyfriend and I also watched the movie “Day Shift,” which was pretty good for a not-serious vampire movie.

I’ve finished 6 books for Readers Imbibing Peril, and the Boyfriend and I watched the movie “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark.” It is NOT a kids’ movie. I’m pretty sure it was made for us grownups who read those stories and looked at those horrifying illustrations when we were kids because the movie brought those illustrations to life! It was sufficiently creepy and I highly recommend it.

I’ve finished 4 books for Readers Imbibing Peril. I’ve also watched several episodes of “Supernatural,” and the Boyfriend and I finally got around to watching “Ash vs. Evil Dead.” We also had waffles yesterday morning for breakfast while watching the new “The Munsters” movie on Netflix. It was awesome and I highly recommend it! On top of that, I desperately needed a trip out of the house to do something other than run errands, so I went to a couple of bookstores yesterday. I stocked up on a ton of RIP-worthy reads! I know, I know, I already have over a hundred books on my RIP TBR, but I couldn’t help myself. There were so many great books that have been on my wishlist for a while and a couple of others that looked too good to pass up! I’ll be getting them added to my TBR sometime today.

I finished The Final Trade the night before the end of #SciFiSummer, and with that, I became a wibbly-wobbly Time Lord! The Summer has officially regenerated into Autumn, and now I can really dig in deep to the creepy-crawly, spooky fun of Readers Imbibing Peril! The narrator of The Turn of the Key, Imogen Church is hitting that spot just right, and I almost wish I had waited until the middle of the night during next month’s #Readathon to listen to it. I’ve been enjoying her stellar narration so much that I looked up all of the other audiobooks she has narrated and bought one that happened to be on my wish list (Lost For Words by Stephanie Butland). I won’t be listening to it until after #RIP, but I am looking forward to it.

I have a little more than a hundred pages left of The Final Trade, and there are only a couple of days left of #SciFiSummer. If I do manage to finish it, it will be just barely, and me being “just barely” a Time Lord sounds about right!

I’m 3 books into Readers Imbibing Peril, and I have so many more that I want to read that I’m having a difficult time trying to decide which one I’ll read next. That’s a good problem to have, I suppose, but it’s driving me a little nuts.
