Bout of Books 16: Day One Progress

Bout of Books
The Bout of Books readathon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long readathon that begins 12:01 am Monday, May 9th and runs through Sunday, May 15th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are entirely optional. For all Bout of Books 16 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. – From the Bout of Books team

I dipped into two books yesterday.  The first one, Let’s Pretend This Never Happened by Jenny Lawson, is the most recent audiobook I’ve been listening to during my commute to and from work.  Instead of listening to music while I walk during my breaks, I listened to more of the book.  After I got home, I picked up Mother Ocean, Daughter Sea by Diana Marcellas, one of the many ARCs I hope to finish this week.  Overall, it was a good reading day 🙂
  • Time Read: 5 Hours 22 Minutes
  • Pages Read: 180
  • Books Finished: Nothing yet
  • Total Number of Books Read: 0

Monday’s Minutes

“Monday’s Minutes” is a weekly post in which I track my bookish life.  All book covers are linked to Goodreads unless otherwise noted.

Current Reads:

  • The Vampire Lestat by Anne Rice – for the Never-Ending Anne Rice Reading Challenge.
  • The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making by Catherynne M. Valente
  • Mother Ocean, Daughter Sea by Diana Marcellas
  • Let’s Pretend this Never Happened by Jenny Lawson

Mother Pretend

DNF:

  • A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith – I just couldn’t handle this kind of story right now.  I might try again someday.

Brooklyn

Challenges:

Total pages read: 227

Total # of books for the year: 20.  I’m in the process of reworking my daily routine to prioritize what is most important to me.  I’m trying once again to save the bulk of my email reading and use of social media to Saturdays so that I can use my breaks at work for exercising and the little bit of free time after work for writing and reading.  So far, I’ve only implemented using my breaks to go walking, since Bout of Books starts today.  Next week might be a little light on posts since I won’t be writing anything except my daily updates this week, but after that, I hope to have at least one review posted.

#FitReaders Check-In

FitReaders2016
  • This check-in is for April 29th – May 5th.
  • My weight has held steady this week, but I’ve successfully made it through another week without sugar.  I miss chocolate, though.
  • This week, my goal was to average 6k steps per day.  I had to work a little harder to meet that, but I did it!  Since the Boyfriend and I moved, my commute to and from work is just long enough to make it difficult to get a full workout in after work and still have time to do my physical therapy exercises, shower, eat dinner, and relax before going to bed.  So, I decided to rearrange my day a little.  I now go walking during my two 15 minute breaks and for half of my lunch break while I’m at work.  If I need to, I can still work out when I get home, but without feeling rushed for time or as if the rest of my life is stopping me from making my health a priority.  The only problem with this plan is that I live in Texas, so I might not be able to continue walking outside once Summer arrives.
  • I completed my 1 Mile Fun “Run” for May on Wednesday:

Fun Run Mile May

I’m hoping to be able to do a 5K by the end of the month.

  • If you’d like to add me as a friend on FitBit, you can find me HERE.
  • Steps: 43,134/42,000
  • Miles: 20.58/19
  • Flights of stairs: 90/70
  • Active Minutes: 211/210
  • Monthly 5K Races Completed: 1/10
  • Monthly 1 Mile Fun “Runs” Completed: 2/10
  • Total Money Donated: $15.91/$100.00

#FitReaders Check-In

FitReaders2016
  • This check-in is for April 22nd – 28th.
  • I’ve managed to keep 3 lbs. off so far this week.  Completely quitting sugar hasn’t been too difficult, except for a couple of days after Dewey’s 24 Hour Readathon.  I was majorly craving all kinds of junk food.  I’m sure those cravings came from a lack of sleep, and I didn’t give in to them.
  • This week, my goal was to average 5k steps per day (I’m in week 5 of the program, but only week 4 into quitting sugar).  That was easy to meet, but I’ll have to work a little bit harder to get next week’s average of 6k steps per day.
  • If you’d like to add me as a friend on FitBit, you can find me HERE.
  • Steps: 35,276/35,000
  • Miles: 14.49/14
  • Flights of stairs: 93/70
  • Active Minutes: 94/210
  • Monthly 5K Races Completed: 1/10
