Monday’s Minutes

“Monday’s Minutes” is a weekly post in which I track my bookish life.

Currently Reading:

  • The 13 1/2 Lives of Captain Bluebear by Walter Moers
  • Prime-Time Health by Dr. William Sears
  • The Penultimate Peril by Lemony Snicket
  • The Big Book of Less by Irene Smit and Astrid van der Hulst

Finished:

  • A History of Reading by Alberto Manguel
  • The Grim Grotto by Lemony Snicket

Total pages read this week: 557

Total books for the year: 55 of 85. Happy Labor Day! There’s another heatwave where I live, so I’m thankful for the extra day off from work. The Boyfriend and I also adopted a kitten so that Dresden will have a friend, but he’s very shy. He’s nearly 4 months old, and he found the tiniest, quietest spot in the bedroom closet.

Tomorrow is the first day of #FrightFall and #SomeithingWickedFall, and I got so excited about it that I went to a bookstore on Saturday and bought The Folcroft Ghosts and The Haunting of Gillespie House, both by Darcy Coates. I started reading The Folcroft Ghosts while I sipped on a smoothie. I had read highly positive reviews of some other books by Coates, but I wasn’t expecting it to be as good as it was.

I thought I would finish The Dante Club shortly after the readathon, but that didn’t happen. I have just over a hundred pages left, and I know I’ll finish it this week because I have another book to pick up from the library.

Total books for the year: 45 of 85. So much for finishing at least one of my current reads! I went on a short vacation to Lake Tahoe, and I thought I would be spending quite a bit of my time relaxing with a book, but that didn’t happen. I did relax, but while walking around, eating wonderful food, and napping.

Shortly before I left on my trip, my local public library announced they were reopening for curbside pickup. I immediately put a couple of books on hold, including The Archived. My books were ready to be picked up by time I got back home, so I hopped on the bus to go get them. I started reading The Archived as soon as I got back to the bus stop to go home. I don’t know what took me so long to read this book!

It has been worth it, though! I have already gotten so many things done, and my life feels much more organized than it did before.
