#FitReaders Check-In #16

  • This check-in is for April 13th – 19th.  I did a little bit better than last week, but I’m still taking it easy for the sake of my back and hips.  I don’t want to end up on the couch again right in the middle of finishing a 20 page research paper or just before Finals.  My goal of averaging 8K steps per day will have to wait another week.

  • This check-in is for April 6th – 12th.  I’m not sure what happened, but by Tuesday night, my back got worse, so, on the off chance that I had been overdoing it, I took it easy for the rest of the week, and I’ll continue to do so this week.  My goal of averaging 8K steps per day will just have to wait.

  • This check-in is for March 30th – April 5th.  My back is mostly back to normal, but to get it there, I didn’t push myself on getting my steps.  I walked to and from my car on campus instead of taking the bus, and I took the stairs instead of the elevator whenever I could, but I didn’t go on any extra walks.
  • I did considerably better than last week, but I didn’t meet my goal of 8K steps.  My schedule has changed slightly, now that I’m done with one of the two research papers for this semester, so I’m not sure how that’s going to affect my step count.  I’m still going to try to meet my goal this week.

  • This check-in is for March 23rd – 29th.  My back is still bothering me a bit, so I’ve been taking it easy.  I took the bus to and from my car on campus, and I didn’t do any unnecessary walking.
  • I’m going to try to at least get more steps than I did this past week, but I doubt I’ll be able to meet my goal of 8K steps.

  • This check-in is for March 16th – 22nd.  Since I hurt my back, and was stuck on the couch, I didn’t even wear my Fitbit for about half the week.  So, I’m not bothering with the week’s step count.
  • Though most of the pain is gone, I’m still uncomfortable when I do anything other than lie down for more than a couple hours, so I’m not trying to meet my goal of 8K steps this week.  I’ll be taking the bus to and from my car on campus until all that walking up and down the stairs and hills is no longer an issue.

  • This check-in is for March 9th – 15th.  My goal was an average of 8K steps per day.  I came so close to meeting it that, even with going on a weekend meditation retreat, all I needed was a little more than 7K steps on Sunday.  However, I hurt my back, and with that, any hopes of getting those steps went with me to the couch.  I’m still in quite a bit of pain and not able to move around much, so I’m not even trying to meet my goal this week.
  • I’ll add 1K steps each week that I meet my goal, until I’m completing 12K steps per day.  After that, I’ll add in resistance training and/or jogging.

  • This check-in is for March 2nd – 8th.  My goal was an average of 8K steps per day.  I was derailed by the weather for part of the week, and thanks to a ridiculous amount of school work, I wasn’t able to get out even when the weather wasn’t horrible.  So, I’ll be repeating the week. Again.
  • I’ll add 1K steps each week that I meet my goal, until I’m completing 12K steps per day.  After that, I’ll add in resistance training and/or jogging.
  • I’m already behind this week, and since I’ll be spending most of the weekend at a meditation retreat, I’m not likely to meet my goal. *sigh*

  • This check-in is for Feb. 23rd – March 1st.  My goal for this week was an average of 8K steps per day.  I was completely derailed by the weather, so I’ll be repeating the week.
  • I’ll add 1K steps each week that I meet my goal, until I’m completing 12K steps per day.  After that, I’ll add in resistance training and/or jogging.  I didn’t go to any hot yoga classes this week.
  • Ice, sleet, rain, temps in the low 30’s, and “real feel’s” in the 20’s.  If it’s too dangerous to drive to school, I’m not going anywhere.  Most of this week is supposed to be crappy, too, but hopefully I’ll be able to make up for it when it’s not.

  • This check-in is for Feb. 16th – 22th.  My goal for this week was an average of 8K steps per day.  I didn’t meet my goal, not even close, so I’ll be repeating the week.
  • I’ll add 1K steps each week that I meet my goal, until I’m completing 12K steps per day.  After that, I’ll add in resistance training and/or jogging.  I didn’t go to any hot yoga classes this week.
  • I felt physically, emotionally, and mentally drained most of this week, and didn’t have the willpower to get off my butt or eat healthy.  I’m proud of myself for recognizing what was happening, and not forcing myself to stick to my goals or seeing it as a major setback.  I didn’t eat mindlessly or allow myself to forget that I needed to workout.  Instead, I made a conscious decision to let this week go and not beat myself up about it.  Sometimes I just need to be a slob.

  • This check-in is for Feb. 9th – 15th.  My goal for this week was an average of 7K steps per day, and since I hit that goal, I’ll be working towards 8K steps per day from Feb. 16th – 22nd.
  • I’ll add 1K steps each week until I’m completing 12K steps per day.  After that, I’ll add in resistance training and/or jogging.  I didn’t go to any hot yoga classes this week.
  • If it weren’t for this challenge, I don’t think I would have met my goal this week.  I pushed myself harder than I would have if I didn’t do these weekly check-ins.  8K steps a day is going to be difficult because I’m now at the point where I have to walk every day.  In previous weeks, I was able to get enough steps to cover multiple days, so if something came up, I was still covered.  That also allowed for full rest days.  Now I don’t have that option, so I’m not sure how that’s going to work for the days when I’m stuck at my computer writing my research papers.
  • One thing I’m proud of is that I’m beginning to see a difference in my level of fitness.  I still haven’t lost any weight or inches, but when the Boyfriend and I were walking our usual route, which includes a steep hill, I didn’t get winded going up the hill.  In fact, the Boyfriend and I continued our conversation all the way to the top and I didn’t even need to stop to catch my breath 🙂
