Challenges:

Total pages read this week: 539

Total # of books for the year: 7 of 85.  I’m determined to finish Anna Karenina this time.  It’s been sitting on my shelves in two different formats for years and I’ve made two attempts to read it in the past. I’ve never got past the first few chapters.  I’m not sure why since I enjoy the story.  Since I got the ebook version for free, it counts for COYER as well as the Show Your Shelves Some Love challenge.  On top of that, it’s also a Classic.  I will be very happy to cross the book off my list, especially since I’m a little behind on my Classics Club reading.

What are you reading this week?

#24in48 Winter 2017 Readathon!

200
Rachel is doing another #24in48 Readathon next weekend!  This is the Readathon that started it all for me.  I created this blog, back when I was The Reading Wench, so I could better connect with such a great bookish community.  This will be my 4th 24 in 48!  I love it because I can read for 24 hours without the sleep deprivation 🙂
Goals:

  • My plan never goes just how I want it to, and since I’m also doing the Women’s March on Austin, I’m only hoping to get as close to 24 hours of reading as possible.
  • Finish one book.  I’m in the middle of three lengthy books, all classics.  I’m also part way through The Mermaid’s Sister, so I’m hoping to finish it at the very least, if not another one of my ARCs.

TBR:
All of the book covers are linked to Goodreads.

  • The Return of the King by J.R.R. Tolkien
  • Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë
  • The Mermaid’s Sister by Carrie Anne Noble
  • Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy

Sign ups are still open.  Are you participating in the 24 in 48 Readathon?

#BoutofBooks 18: Day Seven and Wrap-Up

Bout of Books 18

The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda Shofner and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, January 2nd and runs through Sunday, January 8th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 18 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. – From the Bout of Books team

I finished Pippi Longstocking while I was running errands and preparing to go back to work.  After that, I got in my pajamas and read a bit of The Mermaid’s Sister before going to sleep.
I’m a little bit surprised that I didn’t read more than the last Bout of Books, especially considering I was on vacation this time.  I still feel like I’ve accomplished something and it’s a great start to 2017.  I can’t wait to get the reviews written so I can see my Netgalley ratio go up.
  • Total Time Read: 27 Hours 38 Minutes
  • Total Pages Read: 1606
  • Books Finished: Days of Blood and Starlight by Laini Taylor, The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden, Shadow, Shadow by V.B. Marlowe, The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo, Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater, and Pippi Longstocking by Astrid Lindgren.

#FitReaders Check-In

fitreaders-2017-1

  • This check-in is for December 30th, 2016 – January 5th, 2017.
  • I’ve decided to switch things up a bit this year.  I’m walking to Mordor.  That’s right, I’m committing to walking 1,779 miles in a year, which breaks down to just under 5 miles a day, or about 10,000 steps, which is the recommended amount of walking we should do every day.
  • In addition to the walking, I’m going to try to go to at least 1 yoga class a week.  I hope I can fit in more, but I’m still trying to figure out how to get all the walking in, too.
  • I’ve also started the Full Plate Diet.  My goal is to get up to 75% of each meal consisting of fiber-rich foods.  I’m also going to continue to work on drinking at least 64 ounces of water each day.
  • If you have a FitBit, you can find me HERE.
  • Steps: 23,145/70,000
  • Miles: 7.93/35
  • Total Miles: 7.93/1779
  • Active Minutes: 69/150
  • Days I Drank 64 ounces of Water: 3/7

I decided to listen to some of Shiver while I colored.  I also finished The Bear and the Nightingale and started Shadow, Shadow by V.B. Marlowe.  I decided that since I’m on vacation, I should act like it and stop trying to do everything.  Now that I’m doing whatever I want to do instead, I’m getting a lot more reading done.
