Dewey's 24-Hour #Readathon – First Update

Dewey's Readathon_Pocketwatch_Bellezza
I’ve survived the first 8 hours of Dewey’s 24-Hour Readathon and I haven’t fallen asleep on the couch even once!  I have my cat, Dresden to thank for that, since I sat down in front of my laptop and he jumped into my lap to take HIS nap!  Luckily, I had the audiobook of Day 21 on my computer.

  • Pages Read: 351
  • Books Read: Day 21 by Kass Morgan
  • Mini-Challenges Completed: I’ve done the Book and a SnackTell Me a Story, and Pen Pal challenges.
  • Yummy in my Tummy: I had a giant cup of “Hobbit Hearthwarmer” tea from Solstice Brews and 2 cinnamon rolls from Trader Joe’s.  I also ate far too many oatmeal chocolate chip cookies.

Until my 2nd update, at 9 pm, I’ll continue reading the remaining books on my list:

  • Castle in the Air by Diana Wynne Jones
  • The Alchemyst by Michael Scott
  • Bohemian Gospel by Dana Chamblee Carpenter
  • Seraphina by Rachel Hartman (or another book with magical creatures for the Care of Magical Creatures OWL)
  • Child of the Prophecy by Juliet Marillier (or another book involving a prophecy for the Divination OWL)

Whether you’re participating in the readathon or not, what book(s) are you currently reading?

Dewey's 24-Hour #Readathon – Let's Get This Party Started!

Dewey's Readathon_Pocketwatch_Bellezza
Dewey’s 24-Hour Readathon has officially started!  I stumbled out of the bedroom at 4:30 am so I would have time to make a giant bowl cup of tea.  I’ll be posting my updates every 8 hours, assuming I don’t fall asleep.

  • What fine part of the world are you reading from today? I’m in Emeryville, CA.
  • Which book in your stack are you looking forward to the most? The Alchemyst by Michael Scott.
  • Which snack are you looking forward to the most? I got a bag of praline pecans from the farmer’s market on Wednesday that I’ve been saving for the readathon.
  • Tell us a little something about yourself!  Here are 20 somethings about myself.  Also, I’m a planner addict, and I now have several favorite Etsy shops that I gladly give most of my spending money to when they add new sticker kits.
  • If you participated in the last readathon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today?  My Synovitis was horrible during the last readathon in October, which meant I couldn’t socialize much.  I’ve got it under control now, mostly, so I’ll be chatting it up a bit more this time.

Here’s my TBR:

  • Day 21 by Kass Morgan
  • Castle in the Air by Diana Wynne Jones
  • The Alchemyst by Michael Scott
  • Bohemian Gospel by Dana Chamblee Carpenter
  • Seraphina by Rachel Hartman (or another book with magical creatures for the Care of Magical Creatures OWL)
  • Child of the Prophecy by Juliet Marillier (or another book involving a prophecy for the Divination OWL)

My first update will be at 1 pm.  I’ll be tracking how many pages I read and any books I finish.  I’ll also include snacks I’ve nommed, and any musical earworms that have gotten into my head.
Whether you’re participating in the readathon or not, what book(s) are you currently reading?

O.W.L.s Readathon

Starting from April 2nd through the 29th, those of us willing to join Gintare over at Book Roast will be taking our O.W.L.s.  It’s been a while since I’ve gotten excited about a reading challenge, but as soon as I saw this one, I knew I had to pull a Hermione and sit all 12 exams!  I spent yesterday coming up with a tentative TBR based on the requirements for each subject and I chose the 5 I will complete first (bolded in the list below) so that I’ll be allowed to take the N.E.W.T.s for those subjects on my path to becoming a Librarian.  Madam Pince has to retire at some point, right?

  • Ancient Runes: The Heart of the Revolution by Noah Levine
  • Arithmancy: The 13 1/2 Lives of Captain Bluebear by Walter Moers
  • Astronomy: The Word Exchange by Alena Graedon
  • Care of Magical Creatures: Seraphina by Rachel Hartman
  • Charms: The Blue Sword by Robin McKinley
  • Defense Against the Dark Arts: Libriomancer by Jim C. Hines
  • Divination: Child of the Prophecy by Juliet Marillier
  • Herbology: The Darkest Part of the Forest by Holly Black
  • History of Magic: The Queen’s Fool by Phillipa Gregory
  • Muggle Studies: Voices of Freedom by Eric Foner
  • Potions: The Alchemyst by Michael Scott
  • Transfiguration: Howl’s Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones

#WintersRespite Readathon!

Winter’s Respite Readathon is hosted by Seasons of Reading and runs for the entire month of January!
There aren’t any reading requirements for this readathon, but I’m setting a goal to read as many of the books off of my #COYER list as I can by  the 12th and then as many on my physical TBR as I can for the rest of the month.  I’ll also be participating in #BoutofBooks from the 8th through the 14th!  I can’t think of a better way to start off 2018 🙂

#ThanksgivingReadathon Wrap-up

Is it just me or was this long weekend not long enough?!  The #ThanksgivingReadathon is now over and I feel like I didn’t get enough time to enjoy it.

My TBR:

  • The Silmarillion by J.R.R. Tolkien
  • A Philosophy of Walking by Frédéric Gros
  • The Book of Night with Moon by Diane Duane
  • John Saturnall’s Feast by Lawrence Norfold
  • Dreams of Gods and Monsters by Laini Taylor

Out of the 5 books I want to finish before the start of #COYER, I only finished The Silmarillion.

My Goal:

  • Finish at least 3 of the books on my TBR above.

That didn’t happen *sigh*  However, I did get down to about a hundred pages left of Dreams of Gods and Monsters and I got through nearly 200 pages of The Book of Night with Moon.  That’s not horrible, even if I didn’t read as much as I wanted.

  • John Saturnall’s Feast by Lawrence Norfold
  • Dreams of Gods and Monsters by Laini Taylor

These are my current reads, and I might finish one or two of them before Wednesday.

My Goal:

  • Finish at least 3 of the books on my TBR above.

Since #COYER starts in December, I want as many of my current reads finished by then so I can start fresh.
Are you participating in the #ThanksgivingReadathon or any other readathons over Thanksgiving? Which book on my TBR should I finish first?

Dewey's 24-Hour #Readathon – Final Update

Dewey's Readathon_Pocketwatch_Bellezza
I’ve survived another Dewey’s 24-Hour Readathon!

  • Total Pages Read: 809
  1. Which hour was most daunting for you? 3 am when I suddenly didn’t want to read anymore.  That has never happened before.  I usually just start feeling a bit punchy, but this time I got to the end of a chapter and decided I didn’t want to continue.  I switched to an audiobook, and that fixed it, but for a second there I thought something was wrong with me!
  2. Could you list a few high-interest books that you think could keep a Reader engaged for next year? Head Full of Ghosts by Paul Tremblay
  3. Do you have any suggestions on how to improve the Readathon next year?  Nope, I only have ideas for improving it for myself.  Next time, I want to be more social, and I’ll start with the book I’m most looking forward to instead of anything else.
  4. What do you think worked well in this year’s Readathon? The 10 Years in 10 Books challenge was the most fun.
  5. How many books did you read? 3, but I also read most of Skin Trade by Laurell K. Hamilton
  6. What were the names of the books you read? Ghostland: An American History in Haunted Places by Colin Dickey, The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson, and Head Full of Ghosts.
  7. Which book did you enjoy most?  Head Full of Ghosts
  8. Which did you enjoy least? Ghostland
  9. How likely are you to participate in the Readathon again? What role would you be likely to take next time?  I will definitely be participating again, and I might sign up to be a Goodreads discussion moderator.

I’m going to bed now…

Dewey's 24-Hour #Readathon – 2nd Update

Dewey's Readathon_Pocketwatch_Bellezza

  • Mini-Challenges Completed: Make New Friends and Mid-Event Survey.
  • Yummy in my Tummy: Popcorn, fudge truffles, Coke

Until my final update, at 7 am, I’ll continue reading the remaining books on my list:

  • Skin Trade by Laurell K. Hamilton
  • Wildwood by Colin Melot
  • My Best Friend’s Exorcism by Grady Hendrix
  • Curse of the Boggin by D.J. MacHale

Dewey's 24-Hour #Readathon Mid-Event Survey

Dewey's Readathon_Pocketwatch_Bellezza

It’s time for Dewey’s 24-Hour Readathon Mid-Event Survey!

1. What are you reading right now? The audiobook of Head Full of Ghosts by Paul Tremblay and Skin Trade by Laurell K. Hamilton.
2. How many books have you read so far? 2, but I’m over halfway through Skin Trade.
3. What book are you most looking forward to for the second half of the Readathon?  I’m still really looking forward to My Best Friend’s Exorcism by Grady Hendrix.  It will probably be my next physical book.
4. Have you had many interruptions? How did you deal with those? I’ve only had one interruption, caused by The Boyfriend, but I don’t mind, since he was getting ready to head out the door to hang out with friends.
5. What surprises you most about the Readathon, so far?  How I’ve managed to stay awake without even nodding off.

I’ve survived the first 8 hours of Dewey’s 24-Hour Readathon and I haven’t fallen asleep on the couch even once!  I have my cat, Dresden to thank for that, since I sat down in front of my laptop and he jumped into my lap to take HIS nap!  Luckily, I had my phone nearby to listen to an audiobook.

  • Mini-Challenges Completed: I’ve only done the 10 Years in 10 Books challenge.
