#FitReaders Check-In

  • This check-in is for August 12th – 18th.
  • This week was better than last, but still stressful.
  • I’m reading a book, The Fatburn Fix by Catherine Shanahan, after reading a news article by the same author about vegetable oils and how they affect our bodies.  It has inspired me to make a couple of changes to what I eat, and I hope that will help me, along with all the other things I’m doing, to start pushing the scale in a more favorable direction.
  • One of the changes I’m going to try is to make veggie egg muffins to eat for breakfast in place of my usual yogurt and granola bar.

Building the Book Fort

“Building the Book Fort” is a weekly post where I track my bookish life.

Currently Reading:

  • The Final Trade by Joe Hart
  • Pest Control by Peter Anghelides
  • Extraordinary Tales of Victorian Futurism ed. by Mike Ashley

Finished:

  • Ready Player Two by Ernest Cline
  • How to Invent Everything by Ryan North

Total pages read this week: 484

Total books for 2022: 54 of 85.

I only need to finish one more book for #SciFiSummer to achieve the next level, “Jedi.” That’s more than possible, but I highly doubt I’ll be able to reach “Time Lord” by the end of the challenge. I’m still ok with that since I’ve already finished more books that I originally planned.

#FitReaders Check-In

  • This check-in is for August 5th – 11th.
  • This week was very stressful and trying, and I didn’t always make the best choices for myself.  However, I did give my body the time to sleep more by going to bed earlier, including last night.  I plan to take it easy this weekend.

I finally finished How to Invent Everything late last night before I went to bed, and I have no idea which book from my TBR stack for #SciFiSummer I’ll pick up next. Whichever book I choose, it will probably be a shorter one, since it took me a month to finish How to Invent Everything.

#FitReaders Check-In

  • This check-in is for July 29th – August 4th
  • I had my appointment with a spine specialist this week, but of course, the VA didn’t send over my medical records like they were supposed to, so the specialist couldn’t do much for me beyond ordering new X-rays and doing a basic physical exam.
  • The X-rays turned up a couple more things wrong with my back, so I’ve gotten to the point where I’m fed up with the VA and their subpar medical care.  My plan is to get better health insurance through my job when open enrollment comes around next month and then start going to doctors outside of the VA, depending on what it is (basically anything beyond annual exams and vaccines).
  • On a brighter note, I signed up for the Summer Charity Challenge.  This Summer, we’re doing planks, and the minimum is 120 minutes.  My health coach gave me a link to a short plank workout, and it’s perfect for the challenge.  The spine specialist said planks were the ideal exercise to increase my core strength without hurting my back, and she was happy to hear that I’m doing the challenge.  I’ve added my time to the stats below.

This has been a very stressful week, and I’ve been too tired to read much. I’ve got less than two hours left of Something Rotten, according to Audible, so I’m hoping I’ll at least have that finished by the middle of the week at the latest.

  • This check-in is for July 22nd – 28th
  • This was a rough, stressful week, especially at work, and working overtime didn’t help.  I’m relaxing this weekend, as much as I can, but I do have a couple of things to do in the backyard.  Hopefully destroying some weeds will be satisfying, especially while listening to an audiobook.

I feel like this was a slow reading week, even though I turned 308 pages. I didn’t finish any books, so maybe that’s why. It may also be partly because I’m struggling to get through How to Invent Everything. It’s interesting, but it’s definitely not action-packed. It’s more of a humorous history of civilization through our inventions. I’ve gotten about halfway through it, so hopefully, I’ll be able to finish it in a couple of weeks.

#FitReaders Check-In

  • This check-in is for July 15th – 21st.
  • I think I’m back to “normal.”  I’ve got energy, there are things I want to do, and I’m planning on combining those two elements to accomplish some stuff this weekend.  Hopefully, my mood, body, and the weather will all cooperate. *fingers crossed*

With six books finished for #SciFiSummer, I’ve achieved my goal of “Viper Pilot.” I will of course keep reading Science Fiction throughout the rest of the challenge, which doesn’t end until September 21st, but I don’t know if I’ll be able to finish the five books I would need to get “Jedi.”
