#FitReaders Check-In

  • This check-in is for September 16th – 22nd.
  • The first day of Autumn was this week, and with it came cooler temps, which was excellent, and rain, which wasn’t so great, but it wouldn’t be Fall without some rain-induced back pain now would it? *Sigh*

Building the Book Fort

“Building the Book Fort” is a weekly post where I track my bookish life.

Currently Reading:

  • The Turn of the Key by Ruth Ware

Finished:

  • The King of Bones and Ashes by J.D. Horn

Total pages read this week: 367

Total books for 2022: 61 of 85.

I have a little more than a hundred pages left of The Final Trade, and there are only a couple of days left of #SciFiSummer. If I do manage to finish it, it will be just barely, and me being “just barely” a Time Lord sounds about right!

I’m 3 books into Readers Imbibing Peril, and I have so many more that I want to read that I’m having a difficult time trying to decide which one I’ll read next. That’s a good problem to have, I suppose, but it’s driving me a little nuts.

#FitReaders Check-In

  • This check-in is for September 9th – 15th.
  • This has been an extremely stressful week, and my body is letting me know.  Things are getting a bit better and more manageable now, so hopefully, my body will calm down with some self-care this weekend.

I’m starting to think that I’m never going to finish The Final Trade, at least not before the end of #SciFiSummer. As usual, I am off to a good start for Readers Imbibing Peril. Both of the audiobooks I finished this week work for both challenges, and if I do manage to finish just one more Sci-Fi book by the 21st, I’ll officially be a Time Lord! I think it will be the first time I’ve gotten to that level.

#FitReaders Check-In

  • This check-in is for September 2nd – 8th.
  • I didn’t back home from my trip to visit my family until late in the afternoon, so I didn’t get a chance to make my egg muffins for the week.  WOW, did I feel the difference in energy!  I went back to relying on a bar and yogurt for breakfast, and I was tired all week.
  • Today, I made 2 batches of egg muffins, and I have enough of the ingredients to make a 3rd batch tomorrow if I have time.  1 batch went in the fridge, and the other 2 will go in the freezer.  It’s going to be a busy month, and I don’t want to be caught without a healthy breakfast again.

  • The Fatburn Fix by Catherine Shanahan

Total pages read this week: 464

I’m posting this earlier than usual because I will be busy visiting family this weekend. I have one book to finish for #SciFiSummer that doesn’t qualify for Readers Imbibing Peril. Since Sci-Fi Summer is nearly over (it officially ends on September 21st), I want to finish The Final Trade before I start any other ebooks. I’m taking it with me on my trip, but I don’t know if I will have time for anything other than audiobooks while I’m on the road. Speaking of audiobooks, Malorie is good so far, but I want answers and I don’t think I’m going to get them! I have less than an hour left, with a 3-hour drive ahead of me, so I’ve made sure I’ve got several options for my next audiobook downloaded to my phone.

#FitReaders Check-In

  • This check-in is for August 26th – September 1st.
  • My energy and mood have been better all week, and I haven’t had a single craving for junk or wanted to get fast food for dinner.  Those are huge wins in my book!
  • I’m still working on phasing out the processed foods, but I am starting to run out of them in my pantry and fridge.  I need to find a snack that isn’t popcorn, but is crunchy since I have yet to find anything that isn’t celery and doesn’t contain some kind of vegetable oil.  Please leave suggestions in the comments!

I still have two books to finish for #SciFiSummer by September 1st when Readers Imbibing Peril starts. Then I can start a book that works for both challenges, and I think Suspicious Minds by Gwenda Bond would be perfect since it’s the first “Stranger Things” book.

#FitReaders Check-In

  • This check-in is for August 19th – 25th.
  • I don’t really know how, but having a couple of veggie egg muffins in the morning instead of yogurt and a granola bar has given me more energy throughout my day.  I have the yogurt in place of my usual lunch snack, and that seems to be helping, too.  I get all the way to dinner without being hungry or tired, and I’m eating fewer calories overall.
  • Since such a small change has been so helpful in my day-to-day life, I’m now working on phasing out processed foods that contain vegetable oils from my dinner.  Lunch is going to be the most difficult for me to change, so dinner is the better option to work on next.

I’m now a Jedi in the #SciFiSummer challenge. I’m hoping to finish up the three Sci-Fi books I’m currently reading by the end of the month, but I’m not 100% sure I’ll be able to do it. I’ll keep reading Sci-Fi through the end of the challenge, but Readers Imbibing Peril starts September 1st, and I only have two books that I know of that would work for both challenges. Both books are “Doctor Who” books, so I’ll have to read something else in between them. There’s no way I can handle back-to-back “Doctor Who” without it majorly affecting my dreams.
