#24in48 Readathon!!!

Rachel is doing another #24in48 Readathon this weekend!  This is the Readathon that started it all for me.  I created this blog so I could better connect with such a great bookish community.  This will be my 5th 24 in 48!  Unfortunately, I won’t be able to participate for a full 24 hours this time.  The Boyfriend and I are getting ready to move to San Fransisco and will be spending most of tomorrow clearing out my storage unit.
Goals:

  • I plan to read a few pages here and there on Saturday whenever I can and then reading all day Sunday.
  • I would love to finish at least one book.

TBR:
Even though I won’t have time to attempt a full 24 hours of reading, I still made a small stack of books to choose from which are all short and sweet.  All of the book covers are linked to Goodreads.

  • A Philosophy of Walking by Frédéric Gros
  • Designing Your Life by Bill Burnett and Dave Evans
  • The Colour of Magic by Terry Pratchett
  • Linger by Maggie Stiefvater
  • Ruined by Reading by Lynne Sharon Schwartz
  • The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath

Are you participating in the 24 in 48 Readathon?

#FitReaders Check-In

  • This check-in is for January 19th – 25th.
  • Finding a new workout program has been put off by getting ready to move to San Fransisco.  We’re in the middle of downsizing our stuff since we know any “affordable” apartment in SF will be significantly smaller than where we live right now.  I am both excited and terrified, but I know it will all work out.
  • If you have a FitBit, you can find me HERE.

  • Steps: 20,731/30,000
  • Miles: 8.53/15
  • Total Miles: 38.21
  • Active Minutes: 71/210
  • Total Money Donated: $0.12/$5.00

Monday's Minutes

“Monday’s Minutes” is a weekly post in which I track my bookish life.  All book covers are linked to Goodreads unless otherwise noted.
Currently Reading:

  • Les Misérables by Victor Hugo
  • A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson
  • A Philosophy of Walking by Frédéric Gros
  • Dharma Punx by Noah Levine
  • The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows
  • The Shelf by Phyllis Rose

Finished:

  • Blood Rites by Jim Butcher

Challenges:

  • COYER: 1 of 30 from The List, 1 for “The One With The Twist”

Total pages read this week: 530
Total books for the year: 5 of 90.  It’s been an extremely busy week as the Boyfriend and I make plans to move.  I don’t know how much reading I’m going to accomplish over the next month or so, but my goal is to read for at least a half hour every night before bed.  I call it a goal, but really it’s part of my self-care plan to maintain my sanity 😉  Luckily, I’m still on track to finish 90 books this year.
What are you reading this week?

Down the TBR Hole #16

Image: hjl

Down the TBR Hole was started by Lia over at Lost in a Story.  All book covers are linked to Goodreads unless otherwise noted.

How it works:

  • Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 if you’re feeling adventurous) books
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?

I will be repeating this process until I’ve filtered out my entire TBR.  It’s been a while since I did one of these posts, and in that time, my TBR skyrocketed up to 706 books!!!  How did that happen?  I finally scanned all of my books into Goodreads, that’s how!

This week’s five books:

The Colour of Magic by Terry Pratchett – KEEP.  The Discworld series is one of those essentials for every Fantasy fan to read.  I will read this book, hopefully sometime this year.

Daughter of the Sun by Lonnie Ezell – GO.  Meh.  That is all.

The Viking’s Apprentice by Kevin McLeod – KEEP.  I don’t think I’ve ever read a Middle Grade Fantasy involving Vikings.  That alone makes this one interesting enough to keep.

He Who Walks in Shadow by Brett J. Talley – GO.  I didn’t realize this was a sequel when I got it for free.  After reading the synopsis for the 1st book, That Which Should Not Be, I’m not interested enough to keep it, despite its being a nod to Lovecraft.

The Wnter Freak Show by Daniel Parsons – KEEP.  I’ve had this ebook for a couple of years now, and I’m determined to make it a part of my Christmas TBR this year.
My to-read shelf is down to 704 books.  See you next Saturday when I start with book #121.

#FitReaders Check-In

  • This check-in is for January 12th – 18th.
  • I got a little off track this week, and I’m blaming the weather.
  • I did manage to do some of the resistance band exercises this week.  I did enough to realize I need a different program.  So, I looked through my fitness stuff from when I was doing Real Appeal, and I’m going to start incorporating some of those ideas this weekend to see what works.
  • If you have a FitBit, you can find me HERE.

  • Steps: 20,452/30,000
  • Miles: 8.39/15
  • Total Miles: 29.68
  • Active Minutes: 74/210
  • Total Money Donated: $0.09/$5.00

Thursday's Things – Free Books Edition

“Thursday’s Things” is a roundup of book-related links I’ve come across while wandering down the rabbit hole that is the internet.
I’m on a book buying ban for the next month or so.  The Boyfriend and I might be moving to San Fransisco, and if we do, the square footage of where we end up living is bound to be tiny in comparison to our current apartment.  So, not only do I need to save money for moving expenses, but I need to save as much precious physical space as possible.  However, no one said I can’t “shop” for ebooks without spending any money!  Here is a list of 10 places we can all get our fix for free:

Monday's Minutes

“Monday’s Minutes” is a weekly post in which I track my bookish life.  All book covers are linked to Goodreads unless otherwise noted.
Currently Reading:

  • Les Misérables by Victor Hugo
  • A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson

  • Blood Rites by Jim Butcher
  • Dharma Punx by Noah Levine
  • The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows

Finished:

  • The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss
  • The Little Book of Hygge by Meik Wiking

Challenges:

  • COYER: 1 of 30 from The List, 1 for “The One With The Twist”

Total pages read this week: 679
Total books for the year: 4 of 90.  Another Bout of Books is over and #COYER has switched to the next phase, which for me is “The One With The Twist”.  I chose to stick to my physical books for this phase, so until February 9th, I will be concentrating on finishing The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society and as many other physical books off of my TBR as I can.

#BoutofBooks 21 – Day 7 and Wrap-up

Bout of Books

The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda Shofner and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, January 8th and runs through Sunday, January 14th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 21 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. – From the Bout of Books team

I didn’t get much reading done, but I did listen to a bit of Dharma Punx by Noah Levine on my way to and from the grocery store.  It wasn’t until the afternoon when I finally got some time to return to Blood Rites by Jim Butcher.

  • Time Read:  1 hours 30 minutes
  • Pages Read: 62
  • Books Finished: The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss, The Little Book of Hygge by Meik Wiking
  • Total Number of Books Read:2

Overall, this wasn’t my best Bout of Books, but I also didn’t have the luxury of being on vacation this time and my life hasn’t gotten significantly busier the past couple of weeks.  Still, I did manage to finish 2 books and get nearly half-way through 2 others.  I’m looking forward to the next Bout of Books in May!
