Monday's Minutes – Yes, I Know it's Tuesday

“Monday’s Minutes” is a weekly post in which I track my bookish life.  All book covers are linked to Goodreads unless otherwise noted.
Currently Reading:

  • Wanderlust by Rebecca Solnit
  • Seraphina by Rachel Hartman
  • The Rules of Magic by Alice Hoffman

Challenges:

Total pages read this week: 190
Total books for the year: 64 of 90.  Sunday was the end of another #BoutofBooks!  I didn’t meet any of my goals, and I barely had any time to squeeze in some reading during the entire week.  Yesterday, not only did I not have time to post anything before I left for work in the morning, but I went with the Boyfriend to a Smashing Pumpkins concert (which was awesome!!!) and was too exhausted when I finally got home to do anything but fall into bed.  Don’t even get me started on this morning!
COYER ends this week, but RIP 13 begins, and there’s also a Something Wicked This Fall Comes kick-off readathon over at Seasons of Reading over the weekend!  To top it all off, the Boyfriend and I are celebrating our 5th anniversary by going to the Scottish Highland Gathering.  I will be using Labor Day to look over my work and personal calenders to come up with a plan to avoid things like posting “Monday Minutes” on a Tuesday.

Total books for the year: 64 of 90.  Today is the start of another #BoutofBooks!  I’m not sure how much reading I’ll be able to do for it or the next couple of weeks as I get settled into my new job, but if it’s anything like the two days I worked last week, my reading is going to take a hit.  That’s OK, though, because I’m working for a literacy non-profit so books are still very much the center of my life, if not more so now than ever before.

Total books for the year: 62 of 90.  I’m pretty sure I’m going to use Artemis as my ‘A’ grade for the Muggle Studies NEWT, but I’m not sure where Big Mushy Happy Lump will fit, if anywhere.  What I do know is that I’m not doing well with the NEWTs Readathon, and that’s not likely to change with me starting my new job on Thursday.  Then again, Bout of Books is coming up next week so maybe I’ll surprise myself.

Total books for the year: 60 of 90.  This past week was rough.  I spent the first couple of days sick and the rest going to an appointment and doing two job interviews while also trying to catch up on everything I didn’t get done while I was sick.  My head just was not in a place where I could concentrate on what I was reading until the weekend when I could finally relax.

Total books for the year: 52 of 90.  I wanted to like The Bone Witch, but for some reason I didn’t care about the MC at all and couldn’t get into the story.  Oh well, maybe I’ll try again some day.  The Boyfriend and I recently finished watching the series “Turn,” based on the book, Washington’s Spies by Alexander Rose.  I found a copy of it, along with The Glorious Cause, and got sucked into the latter while hanging out at the coffee shop yesterday.  It seems that I’m in a phase where I can’t finish the books I’m reading because I keep getting distracted by other books.

Total books for the year: 52 of 90.  Even though the Boyfriend’s Mom and her Husband were visiting this weekend, I still managed to read quite a bit.  I also got introduced to two local, independent bookstores (City Lights Books and Browser Books) and bought a couple of books that had been on my wish list for awhile.  The only not-so-great thing about this week, reading-wise, was that I’m not enjoying The Bone Witch.  I’m 42 pages in, and it has yet to grab my attention or make me care about the MC.  I’m going to give it until 50 pages, but I’m considering it a dud and returning it to the library if it hasn’t hooked me by then.
