#WyrdandWonder has me excited about reading Fantasy all month long! And now that I have enough space on my bookshelves for all of my physical TBR, I’m picking up whatever Fantasy book I want to read regardless of format. I no longer feel the pressure to read my physical books exclusively, and it’s a great feeling to get back to some of the series I haven’t been reading because they’re on my Kindle.

What are you reading? Let me know in the comments!

#FitReaders Check-In

  • This check-in is for April 29th – May 5th.
  • It’s been raining off and on most of the week, and cloudy all the time.  I mowed on Sunday but ended up having to take Monday off from work because of all of the pain I was in.  I don’t think mowing the lawn was what did it, but the Boyfriend said he’d rather hire a lawn service than have either of us have to mow every weekend that’s not rainy just to keep up with it.  Now that we’re not mowing, I might have the time to start a small garden or at least grow some flowers in some pots.
  • If you have a FitBit, you can find me HERE.
  • Active Days: 4/5
  • Steps: 39,364
  • Miles: 15.96/19.25
  • Total Miles: 267.44/1,000
  • Active Minutes: 149/150

Wyrd & Wonder 2022

Artwork by chic2view from 123RF.com

This is my first year participating in the monthlong Wyrd & Wonder Fantasy celebration!

About Wyrd & Wonder (from their sign-up page):

Wyrd and Wonder is an annual celebration of the fantasy genre. Sign up to join the party as we explore worlds of myth and magic, re-imagine traditional tales, cheer on heroes (prefer villains? Sure, we won’t judge you) and discover the secret doors that lead from familiar streets to adjacent realms where a discourtesy or a misstep may land you in hot water. We’ll be reading books, watching movies, playing games and sharing our thoughts online through blog posts and social media with as many like-minded adventurers as care to join us – there’s always room by the fire for a newcomer with a tale to share.

There are daily prompts, and even though I’m a bit late in doing this, today’s prompt is titled, “Best Laid Plans,” and is all about our Fantasy TBRs.

Y’all who have followed my blog for a while now probably already know that I’m not great at sticking to a strict TBR or stack of books. I’m a bit of a mood reader, so it’s good for me to have lots of options. Luckily, I have plenty of them from my physical bookshelves alone, and even more to choose from when it comes to ebooks and audiobooks. With that being said, I made a list just for this month on Goodreads. It has 117 potential Fantasy reads for me to pick from throughout the month.

Since I’ve already started it, I did not include Gallant by V.E. Schwab on the list, but I will be finishing it tonight before I go to bed.

After that, I think I’ll pick the book I had been most looking forward to reading yesterday during Dewey’s 24-Hour Readathon, The Magic Misfits by Neil Patrick Harris.

Here’s to a Wyrd and Wonderful May!!!

Are you participating in #WyrdandWonder? What Fantasy book(s) are you currently reading?

Yesterday was Dewey’s 24-Hour Readathon, and I’m not sure I’ll be participating in them anymore. It went from being a huge event that I greatly looked forward to every April and October to an event that the hosts don’t seem to want to be bothered with putting any effort into anymore. I think in the future I’m going to put aside a weekend for reading during the same months to keep the tradition on my own.

Dewey’s 24-Hour #Readathon – Second Update

Dewey's Readathon_Pocketwatch_Bellezza

We’re 16 hours into Dewey’s 24-Hour Readathon, and I’m calling it a night. I want to stay awake, but my body is not going to let me, no matter how good Gallant might be.

  • Pages Read: 287
  • Books Read: Gallant by V.E. Schwab
  • Time Read: 4 hours and 47 minutes
  • Yummy in my Tummy: I snacked on some pork rinds, had a turkey and cheese sandwich, and a dirty chai as a late lunch, and then a couple of chili dogs and some root beer for a late dinner.

I’ll write my answers to the closing survey and post them after I get up tomorrow. Until then, good night!

Whether you’re participating in the readathon or not, what book(s) are you currently reading?

Dewey’s 24-Hour #Readathon – First Update

Dewey's Readathon_Pocketwatch_Bellezza

The first 8 hours of Dewey’s 24-Hour Readathon have passed and I only took a very brief nap while reading with The Boyfriend on the couch. I did almost fall asleep again when one of the cats, Dresden, demanded yet more snuggles, but instead I took a pic of him to share on Litsy.

Dresden keeping me stuck on the couch in an awkward position
  • Pages Read: 241
  • Books Read: Wizards of Water and Wood by P.J. Owen, Number the Stars by Lowis Lowry
  • Time Read: 4 hours and 1 minute
  • Yummy in my Tummy: I had a giant cup of tea, a cherry yogurt, two hardboiled eggs, and a couple slices of toast with butter for Breakfast. Then, around Elevenses, I opened up the container of peanut butter snack mix I have been waiting all week for and ate quite a bit of it before putting it away again.

Until my 2nd update, at midnight EST, I’ll continue reading the remaining books from my TBR stack and, at some point, hopefully, I’ll listen to at least a little bit of The Well of Lost Plots by Jasper Fforde.

Dewey’s 24-Hour #Readathon!!!

Dewey's Readathon_Pocketwatch_Bellezza

Dewey’s 24-Hour Readathon has officially started!  I’ve been awake since around 6:30 am, thanks to one of my cats, Dresden, deciding that he desperately needed snuggles and get his belly scratched (He loves belly scratches, but only by me). I’ve got my huge cup of tea and I’m set up in the den on our super comfy couch to read while I eat some toast with a little bit of butter, a yogurt, and a couple of hardboiled eggs.

My first book of the readathon is Number the Stars by Lois Lowry. While I still have my pile of books, I’m doing what I did back in October and picking 9 books from the list by length. The physical books are pictured below. So, if all goes well, I’ll only be reading shorter Middle-Grade fiction, except for the audiobook I started earlier this week, The Well of Lost Plots by Jasper Fforde. I’ll be posting updates here every 8 hours.

My #Readathon TBR Stack
  • What fine part of the world are you reading from today? I’m in Columbus, OH.
  • Which book in your stack are you looking forward to the most? The Magic Misfits by Neil Patrick Harris.
  • Which snack are you looking forward to the most? I got a peanut butter snack mix from Costco that I had to hide from myself in the back of the pantry so I wouldn’t open it until today.
  • Tell us a little something about yourself!  I own over 800 books that I haven’t read yet, over 500 of which are physical books. Though I’ve tried many different book buying/shopping bans over the years, I finally made a deal with myself to not buy any more physical books until I had enough space on my bookshelves for them. This readathon will give me that space 🙂
  • If you participated in the last readathon, what is one thing you’ll do differently today? As mentioned above, I’ve selected a small stack of books from my TBR, based on length, that I will attempt to stick to for this readathon. Last readathon, I only picked physical books, but this time, I’m including an ebook.

My first update will be at 4 pm.  I’ll be tracking how many pages I read and any books I finish.  I’ll also include snacks I’ve nommed, and any music I’ve listened to while reading.

Whether you’re participating in the readathon or not, what book(s) are you currently reading?

#FitReaders Check-In

  • This check-in is for April 22nd – 28th.
  • It’s supposed to rain this weekend, which is fine by me since it’s #readathon weekend!  That’s also why I’m posting this today instead of tomorrow.
  • I managed to mow all of the lawn on Saturday, but it took a lot of breaks in the shade and a lot of water.  I got over an hour’s worth of active minutes, and I’m glad I did it since mowing this weekend probably won’t happen.
  • If you have a FitBit, you can find me HERE.
  • Active Days: 4/5
  • Steps: 45,640
  • Miles: 18.59/19.25
  • Total Miles: 251.48/1,000

Building the Book Fort

“Building the Book Fort” is a weekly post in which I track my bookish life.

Currently Reading:

  • The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck
  • To Kill a Kingdom by Alexandra Christo
  • The Stolen Marriage by Diane Chamberlain

Finished:

  • The Book Charmer by Karen Hawkins

DNF:

  • The Wolves of Winter by Tyrell Johnson

Total pages read this week: 181

Total books for 2022: 23 of 85.

I still have one book left that won’t fit on the shelf, thanks to getting this month’s book for the Fantastic Strangelings book club. I know I’ll finish To Kill a Kingdom today, and I’ll probably finish one more book this week before this weekend, but it will definitely take the #readathon to free up enough space on my shelves for that last book.

What are you reading? Let me know in the comments!

#FitReaders Check-In

  • This check-in is for April 15th – 21st.
  • It’s supposed to be 80+ degrees all weekend, and it’s sunny out today (for the time being).  The weather has been a lot better this whole week, with the exception of some rain, and that means I’m not in as much pain as I’ve been in for what feels like forever.  The only downside is all of the yard work I’ve got to try to get done before it rains again.
