#FitReaders Check-In

  • This check-in is for November 23rd – 29th.
  • I’m finally over being sick (I think) and done with having to wear a heart monitor.  Now, I just have to wait until the results come back.
  • If you have a FitBit, you can find me HERE.
  • Workouts: 3/6
  • Steps: 33,491/50,000
  • Miles: 13.88
  • Total Miles: 707.20
  • Active Minutes: 133/210

Monday's Minutes

“Monday’s Minutes” is a weekly post in which I track my bookish life.  All book covers are linked to Goodreads unless otherwise noted.
Currently Reading:

  • Becoming Odyssa by Jennifer Pharr Davis
  • Dragons of Autumn Twilight by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman
  • Not the Killing Type by Lorna Barrett

Finished:

  • Hygge Habits by Helena Olsen

Total pages read this week: 407
Total books for the year: 85 of 90.  Yesterday was the last day of the #ThanksgivingReadathon, and I’m now only 5 books away from my annual reading goal.  I’m still not sure how I’m going to finish 5 books in what is now just over a month, but the office where I work shuts down for the rest of the year right before Christmas so I figure I’ll have plenty of reading time then.  Until then, I will be trying to make up all of the hours I missed from being sick.

#ThanksgivingReadathon Wrap-Up!

Yesterday was the final day of the #ThanksgivingReadathon hosted by Jackie B @ Death by Tsundoku! It was also the last day of my holiday weekend, and as much as I love my job, that makes me a bit sad.

My TBR:

  • Dragons of Autumn Twilight by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman
  • Not the Killing Type by Lorna Barrett
  • Come November by Katrin van Dam
  • One other book from my “Hygge” list.

While I read quite a bit, the only book I finished was Hygge Habits by Helena Olsen.  I nearly finished Dragons of Autumn Twilight with only 30 pages left when I decided to turn off the light last night.  I was tempted to stay up, but Monday mornings are difficult enough when I haven’t stayed up past my bedtime to finish a book.  I wound up only listening to a couple of hours of Not the Killing Type, but Dragons of Autumn Twilight was so good I didn’t want to put it down.

Down the TBR Hole #47

Image: hjl

Down the TBR Hole was started by Lia over at Lost in a Story.  All book covers are linked to Goodreads unless otherwise noted.

How it works:

  • Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 if you’re feeling adventurous) books
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?

I will be repeating this process until I’ve filtered out my entire TBR.

My TBR pile is holding steady at 698 books.  I’m hoping it will decrease by Monday since I’m currently in the middle of the #ThanksgivingReadathon.

This week’s books:

A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness – KEEP.  Every time I see this book on my wish list, I decide I’m not ready for the heartbreak.  I will eventually read it, but not right now.

Lending a Paw by Laurie Cass- KEEP.  I <3 cozy mysteries involving books and cats.  I especially enjoy listening to them on audiobook while I’m crocheting.

The Readaholics and the Falcon Fiasco by Laura DiSilverio – KEEP.  This cozy mystery involves a book club.  Yes, please!

Iron Hearted Violet by Kelly Barnhill – KEEP.  I added this book to my TBR after reading a review from one of the many book blogs I follow.  The story involves a princess, a dragon, and a forbidden book.  The illustrations are amazing, and I hope to read it soon.

The Princess Bride and Philosophy ed. by Richard Green and Rachel Robison-Green – KEEP.  The Princess Bride is one of my all-time favorite movies and books, so of course I need to add this book to my collection.

My to-read shelf is still at 698 books. I only have 2 more days until I’m back to work.  I’m hoping to finish at least one more book before then, so hopefully my TBR will be at 697 by next weekend.

#FitReaders Check-In

  • This check-in is for November 16th – 22nd.
  • I’ve been sick again this past week, and with the air quality being very unhealthy I was stuck indoors.  I’m feeling much better now, and even went for a walk yesterday.
  • Thanksgiving was wonderful.  The Boyfriend and I planned everything out perfectly and not only did we have everything ready to eat 15 minutes earlier than we planned (rather than 2 hours late like what usually happens), but we have just the right amount of leftovers 🙂
  • If you have a FitBit, you can find me HERE.
  • Workouts: 2/6
  • Steps: 17,906/50,000
  • Miles: 7.35
  • Total Miles: 693.32
  • Active Minutes: 87/210

#ThanksgivingReadathon

Tomorrow begins the #ThanksgivingReadathon hosted by Jackie B @ Death by Tsundoku!
The idea is to read as many books as you can between the 21st and 25th of November.  There will also be a Bookstagram challenge and a giveaway so check out the readathon announcement page above to find out all of the details.  While a TBR isn’t required, I created a short one anyway.

My TBR:

  • Dragons of Autumn Twilight by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman
  • Not the Killing Type by Lorna Barrett
  • Come November by Katrin van Dam
  • One other book from my “Hygge” list.

Currently Reading:

Finished:

  • Anne of the Island by L.M. Montgomery
  • The Secret, Book, & Scone Society by Ellery Adams

Total pages read this week: 508
Total books for the year: 84 of 90.  Today’s post is late due to me being sick (again!) For some reason, Goodreads counted my DNF books into the number of books I’ve read this year.  I was able to fix the issue, and the number of books I’ve read this year is a bit lower than I thought.  I’m still 5 books ahead of schedule according to Goodreads, but I’m not sure how I’m going to finish 6 books in less than 2 months.

My TBR pile is back down to 699 books!  I really hope I can keep it under 700 for the rest of the year.

This week’s books:

The Salmon of Doubt by Douglas Adams – KEEP.  This is considered to be the 3rd book in the “Dirk Gently” series, but it’s a collection of essays and short stories published after Adams passed away.  I’ve been saving it for after I finish the “Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” series since there’s supposed to be a story involving Zaphod Beeblebrox.

The Complete Tolkien Companion by J.E.A. Tyler- KEEP.  I have the first edition of this, but it’s prior to the publication of The Simarillion.  I wants it, my precious!

The Time Traders by Andre Norton – GO.  I’ve had this book ever since the Sword & Laser book club decided to read it a couple of years ago.  I never got around to reading it, probably because I was distracted by several other books.  It’s also possible that I got it simply because it was free. The path to my TBR mountain is paved with the good intentions of stocking up on free ebooks for the inevitable apocalypse.  Or, you know, for when I’m broke.

Succubus Revealed by Richelle Mead – KEEP.  This is the final book in the “Georgina Kinkaid” series, as far as I know.  I haven’t read it yet because I’m saving it for a time when I really need some brain candy.

Goggles Gone Strong by S.M.W. Claw – KEEP.  I’m skeptical about this one, but I think it might be a fun Middle-Grade read, so I’ll give it a chance.

My to-read shelf is down to 698 books. I only have 2 days of work before I’m off for Thanksgiving, which means lots of time to read. Let’s see if I can get my TBR down to 695 by next weekend!

#FitReaders Check-In

  • This check-in is for November 9th – 15th.
  • I had my EKG yesterday, and the Doctor said I have a “perfectly normal” heart.  I have to wear a heart monitor for 2 weeks to completely rule out it as the cause of my symptoms, but I’m happy that the EKG didn’t show anything wrong with my ticker.
  • If you have a FitBit, you can find me HERE.

Total pages read this week: 397
Total books for the year: 85 of 90.  I think this might be the first week of the year in which I don’t have any ongoing reading challenges and I also didn’t finish any books.  It might actually be the first time in the history of this blog.  Thankfully, that will change soon as I’m over halfway through with Anne of the Island and there is a Thanksgiving reading challenge coming up soon and #COYER starting in December.
