“Thursday’s Things” is a roundup of book related links I’ve come across while wandering down the rabbit hole that is the internet.
- All Hallows Read Posters 2017 – This year’s posters are available for free download, including the GIF above, which will take you to the All Hallows Read main page for more info.
- 10 of the Best Gothic Poems for Halloween
- The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe – Read by Christopher Walken – I think this might be the creepiest recital of “The Raven” I’ve ever heard. If you’ve got one that somehow tops it, please leave a link in the comments!
- 5 Hours of Edgar Allan Poe Stories Read by Vincent Price & Basil Rathbone – If Walken’s recital of “The Raven” isn’t enough, here’s 5 hours worth of Poe stories. It includes favorites such as “The Tell-Tale Heart”, “The Masque of the Red Death”, “The Cask of Amantillado”, “The Pit and the Pendulum”, “The Fall of the House of Usher”, and my very 1st story by Poe, “The Gold-Bug”.
- 10 Chilling Audiobooks To Get You In The Halloween Mood – This list doesn’t include any Poe, but if you need a few more audio recommendations, here they are. I’ve added Hex by Thomas Olde Heuvelt to my wish list.
- 20 of the Creepiest Haunted Houses, Castles, and Mansions in Literature
- 40 Scariest Books of the Last 200 Years – I’ve read a lot of the earlier novels, since I’m very much into Gothic literature, but several of the newer ones are now on my wish list.
- Podcasts to Scare You Silly This Halloween – I’m definitely going to try out “The Black Tapes” and I highly recommend “Lore”.
- Halloween Ambient Mixer – If you’ve been reading my “Thursday’s Things” posts for a while, you’ll have seen me mention all the wonderful ambient sounds from AmbientMixer.com. Now you can scare yourself even sillier by adding some Werewolves, Haunted House, or other Halloween-related sounds to your reading.
- For Fans Of ‘American Horror Story’: 12 Spooky Reads To Get You In The Mood For Halloween – This is from last year after “Roanoke” aired; however, this looks like a very good collection of books, so I couldn’t pass up sharing it.
