Bout of Books Update for Day #4

BoutofBooks

I didn’t get nearly as much reading done as I wanted during my day at home on the couch.  Mostly because I fell asleep on said couch while reading, but also because my boyfriend distracted me with kitties.  We have friends who just got married, and the boyfriend is taking care of their two neurotic cats while they are away on their honeymoon!  His theory that time with them would make me feel better was 100% correct.

I have to go back to work today, but TGIF!  I’ll have the whole weekend to read and relax.

Bout of Books Update for Day #3

BoutofBooks

Due to everything that was going on yesterday, I wasn’t able to get any reading done.  I was able to get everything at work straightened out, and things have improved greatly, despite an accident I had.  I fell and got hurt badly enough that I’m not able to work today.  I’m still looking for another job, though.  I’m exhausted, both physically and mentally, and the amount and difficulty of the work really isn’t worth the pay.  It’s not that I have a 3D job (dangerous, dirty, or demeaning), even though from what I’ve just written it might seem that way, but I have some difficult criteria to meet everyday and trying to do that has caused me a ridiculous amount of stress along with feeling wiped out by the end of my shift.

Anyway, since I’m stuck on the couch today, I’m dedicating my time to reading.  I should have a much better update tomorrow!

Bout of Books Update for Day #2

BoutofBooks

Yesterday was better than Monday for both my new job and my reading.  However, I found out that my job might not be complying with my State’s employment laws, and I still didn’t read as much as I would’ve liked to, but it’s a start.  I’m really trying to stay positive.  In light of my work issues, I probably won’t get much reading done today since I need to start looking for a new job just in case.

Bout of Books Update for Day #1

I started my new job yesterday, and since I had to be there much earlier than usual for training and I was thoroughly exhausted by the end of the day, I didn’t get any reading done.  I’m also not exactly thrilled with my new job either, so not accomplishing any reading is a bit depressing.  I will be able to get some reading in this morning though, so hopefully my mood will improve!

Bout of Books Read-a-Thon Goals

Here is a re-posting of my read-a-thon goals as promised, with a slight adjustment:

Time Devoted to Reading

I will be reading every day of the week whenever I’m not at work instead of watching TV.

My Goals

  • finish off all the books I’ve been “currently” reading.
  • Read at least one new book off of my TBR shelf.

Books to Read

  • Bossypants by Tina Fey
  • City of Bones by Cassandra Clare
  • Grand Obsession: A Piano Odyssey by Perri Knize
  • One book off of my TBR shelf – TBA once I’ve finished the other 3.
  • At least one audiobook.

Updates

I will be updating with one post each day with the number of books I’ve read that day, the titles of the books read, and the total number of books read.  If I wasn’t able to finish a book that day, I’ll put the number of pages read instead.  I will also post whatever challenges, if any, I’ve participated in.

Bout of Books Read-a-thon!

BoutofBooks

I’ll be participating in The Bout of Books read-a-thon!  Here’s their official blurb:

The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, May 12th and runs through Sunday, May 18th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure, and the only reading competition is between you and your usual number of books read in a week. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 10 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. – From the Bout of Books team

Dewey’s Read-a-Thon: Final Update!

  1. Which hour was most daunting for you? Around 2am
  2. Could you list a few high-interest books that you think could keep a Reader engaged for next year? The BFG by Roald Dahl, Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, and The Austere Academy by Lemony Snicket.
  3. Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next year? Nope
  4. What do you think worked really well in this year’s Read-a-thon? The hourly posts on the blog.
  5. How many books did you read? 4
  6. What were the names of the books you read? Inkspell by Cornelia Funke, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by J.K. Rowling, The Austere Academy by Lemony Snicket, and Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury.  I started The BFG by Roald Dahl, but didn’t get anywhere near finishing.
  7. Which book did you enjoy most? Oh, how do I even choose that?!  Hmmm…..I think it’s a tie between The Austere Academy and Fahrenheit 451.
  8. Which did you enjoy least? But really, I enjoyed them all about equally.
  9. If you were a Cheerleader, do you have any advice for next year’s Cheerleaders? N/A
  10. How likely are you to participate in the Read-a-thon again? What role would you be likely to take next time?  Yes, I’m definitely participating again, and I’ll make sure I sign up in time to be both a Reader and Cheerleader.

Dewey’s Read-a-Thon Update #7

I took a nap.  I just couldn’t stay up anymore.  I realized that I was reading whole pages of The BFG without any idea of what I had read.  I couldn’t stay focused even though I quickly found out that this book is probably as good as Matilda, one of my all time favorite books, and it is a perfect example of why I love Roald Dahl’s books.

Dewey’s Read-a-Thon Update #6

I’m struggling.  Both my brain and body really want to go to bed, but I’m not quite finished with Fahrenheit 451 yet, and I know if I take a nap now I might not get back up until well after the read-a-thon is over.

Total Time Read: 8 hours 58 minutes

Snacks: None, and I’m about to fix that because I’m hungry, and I suspect my empty belly is making me sleepier.

Dewey’s Read-a-Thon Update #5

I keep going from thoroughly engrossed in Fahrenheit 451 to feeling antsy and simultaneously like taking a nap, not because of the book, but because I’ve been at home all day and up since about 6:30 this morning.  I’m really not sure if I’m going to make it through the night, but I’m going to try.

Speaking of Fahrenheit 451, I think I’m going to have nightmares after I’m done with this book!  It’s that good, and that scary.  It’s like reading 1984 all over again, and it’s what the movie Equilibrium *should* have been, or at least could have been – thought provoking and emotion inducing to such a high degree that I’ll never forget it.  I’ll walk away from this book being better for having read it.  I just realized I used the word “degree” while writing about a book that has a title that is a temperature….  Anyway, I want to at least finish it before I make the decision of taking a nap or making yet another cup of tea.

Books Read: 3

Total Pages Read: 496

Total Time Read: 7 hours 40 minutes

Snacks: I’ve been going lighter on the food thanks to a wicked case of indigestion.  So, I’ve only had a coconut milk banana split ice cream sandwich since my last update.
