#24in48 Readathon!!!

Rachel is doing another #24in48 Readathon this weekend!  This is the Readathon that started it all for me.  I created this blog so I could better connect with such a great bookish community.  This will be my 5th 24 in 48!  Unfortunately, I won’t be able to participate for a full 24 hours this time.  The Boyfriend and I are getting ready to move to San Fransisco and will be spending most of tomorrow clearing out my storage unit.
Goals:

  • I plan to read a few pages here and there on Saturday whenever I can and then reading all day Sunday.
  • I would love to finish at least one book.

TBR:
Even though I won’t have time to attempt a full 24 hours of reading, I still made a small stack of books to choose from which are all short and sweet.  All of the book covers are linked to Goodreads.

  • A Philosophy of Walking by Frédéric Gros
  • Designing Your Life by Bill Burnett and Dave Evans
  • The Colour of Magic by Terry Pratchett
  • Linger by Maggie Stiefvater
  • Ruined by Reading by Lynne Sharon Schwartz
  • The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath

Are you participating in the 24 in 48 Readathon?

#FitReaders Check-In

  • This check-in is for January 19th – 25th.
  • Finding a new workout program has been put off by getting ready to move to San Fransisco.  We’re in the middle of downsizing our stuff since we know any “affordable” apartment in SF will be significantly smaller than where we live right now.  I am both excited and terrified, but I know it will all work out.
  • If you have a FitBit, you can find me HERE.

  • Steps: 20,731/30,000
  • Miles: 8.53/15
  • Total Miles: 38.21
  • Active Minutes: 71/210
  • Total Money Donated: $0.12/$5.00

Down the TBR Hole #16

Image: hjl

Down the TBR Hole was started by Lia over at Lost in a Story.  All book covers are linked to Goodreads unless otherwise noted.

How it works:

  • Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 if you’re feeling adventurous) books
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?

I will be repeating this process until I’ve filtered out my entire TBR.  It’s been a while since I did one of these posts, and in that time, my TBR skyrocketed up to 706 books!!!  How did that happen?  I finally scanned all of my books into Goodreads, that’s how!

This week’s five books:

The Colour of Magic by Terry Pratchett – KEEP.  The Discworld series is one of those essentials for every Fantasy fan to read.  I will read this book, hopefully sometime this year.

Daughter of the Sun by Lonnie Ezell – GO.  Meh.  That is all.

The Viking’s Apprentice by Kevin McLeod – KEEP.  I don’t think I’ve ever read a Middle Grade Fantasy involving Vikings.  That alone makes this one interesting enough to keep.

He Who Walks in Shadow by Brett J. Talley – GO.  I didn’t realize this was a sequel when I got it for free.  After reading the synopsis for the 1st book, That Which Should Not Be, I’m not interested enough to keep it, despite its being a nod to Lovecraft.

The Wnter Freak Show by Daniel Parsons – KEEP.  I’ve had this ebook for a couple of years now, and I’m determined to make it a part of my Christmas TBR this year.
My to-read shelf is down to 704 books.  See you next Saturday when I start with book #121.

#FitReaders Check-In

  • This check-in is for January 12th – 18th.
  • I got a little off track this week, and I’m blaming the weather.
  • I did manage to do some of the resistance band exercises this week.  I did enough to realize I need a different program.  So, I looked through my fitness stuff from when I was doing Real Appeal, and I’m going to start incorporating some of those ideas this weekend to see what works.
  • If you have a FitBit, you can find me HERE.

  • Steps: 20,452/30,000
  • Miles: 8.39/15
  • Total Miles: 29.68
  • Active Minutes: 74/210
  • Total Money Donated: $0.09/$5.00

#FitReaders Check-In

  • This check-in is for January 5th – 11th.
  • I haven’t had any problems with sticking to the “low fat” side of my diet, but I haven’t been able to get 35 grams of fiber a day yet.  I get close, but without using a fiber supplement, it’s difficult for me to eat enough food to hit that number.  I haven’t used a supplement yet because I’m allowing my body at least this week to adjust.
  • I also haven’t been able to keep my calories down to 1,200 per day.  However, I have managed to eat fewer calories than I burn every day, and well under 2,000.  I have already lost a couple of pounds as a result (I’m sure all the water I’m drinking is helping, too).
  • Part of the Fiber35 program is resistance band exercises and cardio.  I’ve managed to do the cardio, but on the mornings I was supposed to do the exercises, I turned off the alarm and went back to sleep.  Saturday is cardio day, but I’m going to do the exercises that day as well to help make up for my lack of motivation this week.
  • If you have a FitBit, you can find me HERE.

  • Steps: 27,118/30,000
  • Miles: 11.13/15
  • Total Miles: 21.29
  • Active Minutes: 119/210
  • Total Money Donated: $0.06/$5.00

#FitReaders Check-In

  • This check-in is for December 29th, 2017 – January 4th, 2018.
  • My first check-in for 2018!  I finished up 2017 with just over 500 miles walked.  This year, I’m hoping to at least double that.
  • 23 and Me is doing a study on the possible connections between weight and genetics that starts on Monday.  I signed up and got put into the high fiber/low fat group.  I was lucky enough to find an excellent, non-gimmicky book about eating a high fiber diet at a Half Price Books store, The Fiber35 Diet by Brenda Watson, C.N.C.  I’ll be using it to help me stick to my diet for the next 12 weeks.
  • If you have a FitBit, you can find me HERE.

  • Steps: 24,765/70,000
  • Miles: 10.16/35
  • Total Miles: 10.16
  • Active Minutes: 40/210
  • Total Money Donated: $0.02/$5.00

#ShelfLove – End of the Year Wrap-Up

shelf_love_2017_250x250

The Show Your Shelves Some Love Challenge is over, and unfortunately, it will not be returning in 2018.
As far as goals go, I sort of bombed the challenge.  While I read far more than 51 books from my TBR, I bought just as many physical books.  I was only supposed to buy one physical book and only use the money I got from selling books to purchase ebooks.  I also only participated in a couple of the monthly discussions.

At the beginning of the year, I determined that I had 293 unread books sitting on my shelves or in my Kindle and Nook.  While I knew that wasn’t all of them because I hadn’t scanned all of my books into Goodreads yet, I was way off from the actual number.  One of my projects for this year was to update my TBR shelf on Goodreads, and I did finally get around to doing that.  The total number of unread books I own is a whopping 553!!!  That is after finishing 101 books this year and 5 that I’m currently reading.

Since there won’t be a #ShelfLove challenge next year, I’m probably going to find another TBR challenge of some kind to help me whittle down that ridiculous number.  I’ll also continue to participate in Down the TBR Hole.  So, if you know of any TBR challenges that aren’t too complicated, leave me a link in the comments!

#FitReaders Check-In

fitreaders-2017-1

  • This check-in is for December 22nd – 28th.
  • This is the final check-in for 2017, and even though check-ins will no longer be required in 2018, I’m still going to do them.
  • I got quite a bit of walking in while I was in Arizona for Christmas.  Between walking through the airports, the little town where the Boyfriend’s Mom lives, and going to see the Luminaria, I chalked up a lot of steps!
  • I’m less than 5 miles from hitting 500 miles this year and 19 cents away from my tiny goal of raising $5 for charity.  Oh well, hopefully I’ll do better next year.
