What I’m Reading Monday #13

Currently Reading: Cold Hillside by Nancy Baker, a review book, Villette by Charlotte Brontë, what I’m reading for The Classics Club, The Hobbit and Philosophy, what I’m reading for fun, and, starting today, Ivanhoe by Sir Walter Scott, for the read-along.

Finished: The Paper Magician by Charlie N. Holmberg, which I reviewed on Friday, and Scrapplings by Amelia Smith, which I’ll be reviewing at the end of the month.

Paper   Scrapplings

Total pages read for the week: 615

Total number of books for the year: 57.  I’ve hit a weird reading slump.  It’s weird because it’s not the kind of reading slump in which I’m not reading, but one in which I don’t want to read.  I’m not sure why.   It might be because I feel like I’m either coming down with a cold or my allergies are getting worse.  However, it might be because Scrapplings was such a disappointment, Cold Hillside, while really good, has a slower pace, Villette is still a struggle to make any progress with, and I miss the fast pace of The Paper Magician.  Actually, I miss everything about The Paper Magician.

What are you reading this week?  Have you ever had the kind of reading slump I’m talking about?  If so, what did you do, or what book brought you out of it?

What I’m Reading Monday #12

Currently Reading:  The Paper Magician by Charlie N. Holmberg, a review book, Villette by Charlotte Brontë, which I’m reading for The Classics Club,  and The Hobbit and Philosophy, what I’m reading for fun.

Finished: The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova, which I’ll be reviewing sometime this week, and Ennara and the Fallen Druid by Angela Myron, which I reviewed yesterday.

Historian Ennara

Total pages read for the week: 513

Total number of books for the year: 55.  I’m still struggling to finish Villette.  My review books for this month are much more interesting, and November is already half-way over.  Besides The Paper Magician, I’ve got 2 more to finish, and I don’t want to push their reviews back, especially since I decided to participate in The Classics Club Spin #8 by hosting a read-along.

What I’m Reading Monday #11

Currently Reading:  The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova, which I’m savoring by only reading a little bit at a time, Villette by Charlotte Brontë, which I’m reading for The Classics Club, Ennara and the Fallen Druid by Angela Myron, a review book, and The Hobbit and Philosophy, what I’m reading for fun.

Total pages read for the week: 575

Total number of books for the year: 53.  I’m still concentrating on finishing the books I started in September or October, as well as reading the review books I’ve got lined up for this month.  Though I’m not going to be participating in any read-alongs, read-a-thons, or challenges this month, I decided to participate in The Classics Club Spin #8, which I’ll be posting more about tomorrow.  Depending on which book I’ll be reading, I might put off starting it till December and host a read-along for it.

What I’m Reading Monday #10

Currently Reading:  The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova, which I wasn’t able to finish before Halloween, and Villette by Charlotte Brontë, which I’m picking back up now that all the Halloween activities are done, Tears of a Heart by Chase Blackwood, a review book, and The Hobbit and Philosophy, another book I’m returning to.

Total pages read for the week: 482

Total number of books for the year: 52.  It’s such a relief to have surpassed my goal for the year.  Now I’m concentrating on finishing books I had started as well as reading the review books I’ve got lined up for this month.  I’m not going to be participating in any read-alongs, read-a-thons, or challenges this month, since the holidays are just around the corner, and I’ve got Finals in December.  I need to relax, and I want to get back to a consistent schedule while I can.  That means Thursday’s Quotables will be every week (except on Thanksgiving), instead of being cancelled due to other posts.  I have a few ideas for new features, but I’m going to wait until at least mid-December before I start those.

Finished: Of Bone and Thunder by Chris Evans.  This was also for review, and I will be posting the review a few days before it’s published (Oct. 14th).  Until then, all I’ll say is that I’m giving it 5 stars!  I also finished, and reviewed, Black Swan, White Raven.

Total pages read for the week: 849

Total number of books for the year: 44.  My reading is continuing to pick back up from my September slump.  I hope I can keep it going for the rest of the year, but if I continue to get books to review, I don’t think that will be an issue.

Currently Reading: Of Bone and Thunder by Chris Evans, one of my books for review;  Bliss by Kathryn Littlewood, chosen for reading on my phone when I’m out and about and have to wait on something; Villette by Charlotte Bronte, my pick for The Classics Club’s month of the Romantics, and The Hobbit and Philosophy.

Finished: Justice in a Dead Land by Emma J.R. Hawk.  This was also for review, and I will be posting the review a few days before it’s published (Oct. 13th).  Until then, all I’ll say is that I’m really excited about it!

Justice

Total pages read for the week: 208

Total number of books for the year: 43.  My reading is picking back up again, mostly because I found myself with 4 books to read and review by mid-October.  I’ve decided to put aside Villette until I finish the review books.  Some time this week, I’ll be adding a section of books that I’ll be reviewing in the future to my Reviews page, along with the date I’m planning on posting the review.  Once it’s reviewed, I’ll move it to the section of reviewed books and link it to the review, as I’ve done in the past.

What I’m Reading Monday #4

Currently Reading: Bliss by Kathryn Littlewood, chosen for reading on my phone when I’m out and about and have to wait on something, Villette by Charlotte Bronte, my pick for The Classics Club’s month of the Romantics, and The Hobbit and Philosophy.

Total pages read for the week: 138

Total number of books for the year: 42.  As predicted, my reading has slowed down.  With just a little more than a week left of September, I doubt I’m going to finish Villette by the end of the month.  I might surprise myself though, so I’m not giving up.
