Currently Reading:

  • Abomination by Gary Whitta – a review book.

  • Shadow of Night by Deborah Harkness
  • Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J.K. Rowling – for the HP Re-read I’m doing.

Finished: Manifesta by Jennifer Baumgardner and Amy Richards, which I won’t be reviewing due to it being over a decade old, and, therefore outdated. I also finished Ready Player One by Ernest Cline and The Scottish Prisoner by Diana Gabaldon, both of which I’ll be reviewing sometime this week.

Total pages read for the week: 929

Total # of books for the year: 50.  I know what you’re thinking.  Rachelle, why are you reading Shadow of Night when you tore A Discovery of Witches apart in your review?!  Well, while there was certainly enough I didn’t like about the first book, a part of me also wanted to find out what would happen next.  I wasn’t curious enough to pay money for the second book, but when I saw it at the library, I decided it wouldn’t hurt to check it out.  I even read the first chapter before I took it home.  It didn’t make me want to scream or roll my eyes, so I will give fifty pages before I make the decision of whether or not to read the whole book.

Total # of books for the year: 43.  I’m trying out a new “system” so that my current reads don’t get out of hand.  At any given time, I will only be reading one book each from my review books, physical TBR, ebooks, audio books, and library books.  That means I won’t exceed five books, and I’ll probably get through each book faster.  Basically, I’m trying to limit the amount of distraction from other books.  We’ll see how long it lasts 😉

Finished: The River Between by Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o, The Origins of the Modern World by Robert B. Marks, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare.  The first two I read for my World History class, and the third I read just in time to complete the Once Upon a Time IX challenge.  I also finished The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch and The Fangirl’s Guide to the Galaxy by Sam Maggs, both of which I’ll be reviewing sometime this week.

Total # of books for the year: 41.  A stomach bug and a three-day weekend allowed me to knock my page count out of the water.  I start my second class of the Summer today, which means I’m that much closer to completing my degree.  It also means I’m closer to having to spend the majority of my free time job hunting.  My anxiety about the transition from college to being an adult again is ramping up, so my reading is probably going to shift to old favorites and comfort reads, most of which are middle-grade Fantasy.  While I definitely need a break from the academic world (I’m so tired of having most of my time taken up by class work), my inner kid is throwing a tantrum and screaming,”I DON’T WANT TO ADULT!!!”  Also, I’ll be leaving behind an amazing library.  Excuse me while I curl up in a ball, put my fingers in my ears, and sing “La la la, I can’t hear you.”

Total # of books for the year: 36.  My amount of reading has been slightly less than usual because I’ve been spending my time when I’m not working on school stuff, organizing my book life.  I completed tasks off my mental to-do list from creating a master TBR list to going through the ridiculous number of book blogs I follow to weed out the ones I’m no longer interested in for various reasons.  Many of my tasks are still works in progress, but I’m hoping to get everything done before I lose steam or life becomes too crazy to do anything that isn’t necessary.

Total # of books for the year: 35.  I finally finished The Fiery Cross!  I started it back in February, and while that’s not the longest it’s ever taken me to finish a book, it’s the longest I’ve spent getting through an Outlander book.  Life and college are to blame since, as with the previous books in the series, The Fiery Cross was fantastic.

Total pages read for the week: 648

Total # of books for the year: 34.  My reading has been moody this past week, and I’m sure that’s because of all the required reading I have for my college class (in addition to the textbook).  As interesting as that assigned reading is, it’s not for fun.  So, when I get time to read anything else, the last thing I want to do is read something that I “should” or “have to” read.  That meant that, though I didn’t list it as a current read, I dipped into The Outlandish Companion, Vol. 1 by Diana Gabaldon for more than just checking on something or someone.  It also meant that I started, and then put aside, Jurassic Park by Micheal Crichton when I was in a crappy mood but was back to “normal” by the next day.  I didn’t list that as a current read either since I have no idea when I’ll get around to reading more of it, and by then, I might have to start over.

Total # of books for the year: 33.  Most of my reading this past week has consisted of audiobooks while commuting to and from school and The Origins of the Modern World, the most interesting assigned book I’ve had to read for a college course.  So while it seems as if I’m reading a lot more, that’s only because I’m on the road for about two hours each day.
