  • RIP XI: 4 of 4 books, at least 60 short stories – I’m completely caught up on Drabblecast, and now I’m getting caught up on Pseudopod, a Horror short story podcast.  I highly recommend both.

Total pages read: 723

Total # of books for the year: 67.  The Perks of Being a Wallflower was amazing, and I’ll be writing a review of it, along with Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children and Slave of My Thirst, soon.

Total # of books for the year: 64.  Most of my reading was finishing the audiobook of Plain Kate.  Even then, I think I listened to more short story podcasts than anything else.  This week, I’ll be listening to the audiobook of The Perks of Being a Wallflower for Banned Books Week.  I’ve also updated my Banned Books page, so be sure to check that out.

Total # of books for the year: 59.  I’m only one book away from completing the Time Lord level of my Sci-Fi Summer reading challenge.  Since that last book is the audiobook edition of The Martian Chronicles, and I’m well over halfway done with it, I’ve started on the giant stack of books I pulled from my shelves for R.eaders I.mbibing P.eril.  Even though the challenge level I’m participating in is only four books, I plan on getting through several more than that, especially since Dewey’s 24 Hour Readathon is in October, and this is the time of year when I prefer to stick to the Gothic and Horror genres.

I was going to slow down my reading to catch up on writing reviews, but I came down with a head cold that was made more horrible by Cedar Fever.  The Boyfriend said it’s a little early in the year for that, but we’ve had a lot of rain over the past couple weeks.  I never had allergies prior to moving to Texas, and every time my eyes get itchy and my sinuses give me migraine-level headaches, I want to move anywhere without cedar trees.  I read whenever I wasn’t sleeping since I didn’t have much energy to do anything else.  Now I have two more books to review, and possibly a third before the end of the day (A Great and Terrible Beauty is SO good!).

Total # of books for the year: 50.  Today is the beginning of another Bout of Books.  As usual, I won’t be posting anything else except for my BoB updates for the rest of the week.  Next week, I’ll be posting several reviews in my renewed attempt to catch up with all the books I’ve read this Summer.  The end of COYER is coming up soon (Sept. 2nd), as well as my Sci-Fi Summer reading challenge (Sept. 21st), so I’m hoping to have at least most of my reviews posted by then.  I’m considering reading nothing but classic literature for the Fall, but I’m not 100% sure about that yet.  There is also a Gothic reading challenge I might participate in, so I’ll be sure to keep you up to date on that.

Total # of books for the year: 47.  The Boyfriend and I finished Downton Abbey, but it was also a rough week for me.  It was bad enough that I had to put down all of my books, except for Bookplate Special, and pick up The Princess Bride.  I just couldn’t handle reading anything that would hit my emotional buttons the way Mockingjay and Primary Inversion had been.  Luckily, the weekend was good and I started coming out of my funk.  The Boyfriend and I went with some friends to see the new Star Trek movie, and we also decided to exchange our 3rd anniversary presents a little early instead of waiting for September 1st.  I got him the hardcover edition of The Aeronaut’s Windlass by Jim Butcher.  I wish I could have afforded to get him something more, but he was thrilled and that’s what counts.  He surprised me with a Sony Walkman audio player.  I’ve been wanting a replacement for my very old and craptastic Zune ever since Microsoft stopped supporting it, and not long after that, it stopped holding a charge for more than an hour or so.

Total # of books for the year: 47.  Do you remember how last week I said I was going to get back to being an organized blogger?  Yeah, about that…The Boyfriend and I have been binging Downton Abbey together.  While I’ve seen most of the series, I started over after he expressed an interest in trying it out, and I’m fairly certain I’m even more hooked on it than I was before.  Most of our free time has been consumed with watching or discussing the show, so I haven’t done much organization wise or anything else for that matter.  We’ll probably be done by the end of the week, so I’ll hopefully have some time to sit down and get everything in order on Saturday or Sunday.
