COYER New Year’s Read-A-Thon

NewYearsRAT

I’m participating in the COYER New Year’s Read-a-thon! Anyone can participate, whether you’re a COYER participant or not. The Read-a-thon will run from 12 AM Thursday, January 1 2015 – 11:59 PM Sunday January 4 2015.

New Year’s Read-a-thon Rules

  1. All books must meet the COYER Price Guidelines (so Free/Nearly Free eBook or Audiobook)
  2. It’s a new year, so read an author, narrator, or series that’s new to you.
  3. Sign-up on the linky before 11:59 PM December 31st.
  4. Before 11:59 PM December 31st, post on your blog, twitter, FB, Google+, Booklikes (you get the idea… somewhere!) that you’re participating. That’s the link you’ll need for the Rafflecopter.
  5. Have Fun!

It’s not required, but my “goal” is to read Tommy Black and the Staff of Light by Jake Kerr and I’ll include a wrap-up in my “What I’m Reading Monday” post on Jan. 5th.  The great thing about this read-a-thon is that it ends the day before Bout of Books 12, which ends before the COYER Dusting off the Shelf Read-a-thon.  TWO WEEKS OF READ-A-THONS before I head back to school for the Spring semester! 🙂

Bout of Books 12!

Bout of Books

The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, January 5th and runs through Sunday, January 11th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure, and the only reading competition is between you and your usual number of books read in a week. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 12 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. – From the Bout of Books team

Time Devoted to Reading

I will be reading every day of the week whenever I’m not running errands or spending time with The Boyfriend.  I’m fortunate to not be working or in school, so I should be able to get a lot more reading done than I did during the last Bout of Books.

My Goals

  • finish off whatever books I’m currently reading.
  • Read at least one new book off of my TBR shelf.
  • I typically read about 2 books a week, so the important thing for me is to read more than that.  I want to be able to finish at least 3 books, but I’m really hoping I’ll be able to finish 4.

Books to Read

I’ll be sticking to ebooks, since I’m participating in COYER, but I’m not sure what books yet.  Chances are the books I read will be whatever eARCs I still have left to read by February.

Updates

I will be updating with one post each day with the number of books I’ve read that day, the titles of the books read, and the total number of books read.  If I wasn’t able to finish a book that day, I’ll put the number of pages read instead.  I will also post whatever challenges, if any, I’ve participated in.

Dewey’s 24 Hour Read-a-Thon: End of Event

Dewey's Readathon_Pocketwatch_Bellezza

  • Which hour was most daunting for you? 4:00 am
  • Could you list a few high-interest books that you think could keep a Reader engaged for next year? The Nightingale Bones by Ariel Swan
  • How many books did you read? 2
  • What were the names of the books you read? Chimera: Book Three by Phil Gomm and The Red Magician by Lisa Goldstein
  • Which book did you enjoy most? Out of the 2 I finished, Chimera: Book Three, but overall, The Nightingale Bones.
  • Which did you enjoy least? The Red Magician, but it was still really good.
  • How likely are you to participate in the Read-a-thon again? What role would you be likely to take next time?  I’ll definitely be participating again, as a Reader.

Dewey’s 24 Hour Read-a-Thon: Update 6

Dewey's Readathon_Pocketwatch_Bellezza

The Nightingale Bones by Ariel Swan is the perfect book to keep me awake!  It’s scared me into sleeplessness.  I tried listening to some appropriately scary music, but it was too much.  Unfortunately, my Nook died, but I was really looking forward to reading The Historian by Elizabeth Kostovowhich I have a physical copy of.  My next update will be the wrap up at 7:00 am.

Dewey’s 24 Hour Read-a-Thon: Update 5

I took a 20 minute nap.  Between not sleeping well the night before, getting up earlier than usual, and being used to going to bed at midnight, I was yawning too much to continue reading.  I finished The Red Magician by Lisa Goldstein, and started The Nightingale Bones by Ariel Swan.  The Nightingale Bones is perfect for October since it involves witches and a haunted house.  My next update will be at 4:00 am.

Dewey’s 24 Hour Read-a-Thon: Update 4

Dewey's Readathon_Pocketwatch_Bellezza

I didn’t get much reading done, not only because of the dinner party, but also because my dishwasher decided to flood my kitchen!  I’m still full from the dinner party, so I haven’t snacked on anything.  I’ve only got 26 pages left of The Red Magician by Lisa Goldstein.  After that, I’m going to read The Nightingale Bones by Ariel Swan.  My next update will be at 1:00 am.

Dinner with my friends ended much earlier than I expected.  I had a good time.  Now it’s time to get back to the thon.  I’ll be playing catch-up with the hourly posts over at Dewey’s, but once that’s done, I’m hitting the books!  I’m still going to do an update post at 10:00 pm.

1. What are you reading right now?  The Red Magician by Lisa Goldstein
2. How many books have you read so far? 1
3. What book are you most looking forward to for the second half of the Read-a-thon? The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova
4. Have you had many interruptions? How did you deal with those? I’ve had several interruptions today, but they were “planned”.  At one point I got a little cranky, but I managed to keep my cool.
5. What surprises you most about the Read-a-thon, so far? How little I’ve managed to read in 12 hours.  Even with knowing ahead of time that there would be unavoidable interruptions, I still thought I would’ve gotten more pages read.

Dewey’s 24 Hour Read-a-Thon: Update 3

Dewey's Readathon_Pocketwatch_Bellezza

9 hours down, 15 to go.  My reading is continuing to slow.  Partly because I had to stop to make sangria for the dinner I’m having with friends tonight, and partly because I had to get the laundry done.  My next update isn’t going to be until 10:00 pm, since I’m going to be busy with the dinner.  That also means I probably won’t get much reading done.  I’m about halfway through The Red Magician by Lisa Goldstein.  I might have it finished by midnight, if I’m lucky.  Unless I’m able to pick up speed, I think I’ll only be able to finish one more book after that.

Dewey’s 24 Hour Read-a-Thon: Update 2

Dewey's Readathon_Pocketwatch_Bellezza

6 hours down, 18 to go.  I’ve had pumpkin seeds and a chocolate coconut granola bar for snacks, and vegetarian corn dogs for lunch.  My boyfriend brought home guava pastries, so I’m looking forward to eating those later tonight with some more coffee.  Somehow, I managed to read even less than during the first 3 hours.  Hopefully I’ll get more read between now and my next update at 4:00 pm.  I finished Chimera: Book Three by Phil Gomm, and started The Red Magician by Lisa Goldstein.  I still haven’t listened to any music, but only because I don’t have anything that fits with The Red Magician.

Dewey's Readathon_Pocketwatch_Bellezza

3 hours down, 21 to go.  I’ve had coffee and cherry turnovers for breakfast, but it’s been a slow start.  I’ve only got 20 pages left of Chimera: Book Three by Phil Gomm, and after that I think I’ll move on to The Red Magician by Lisa Goldstein.  I haven’t listened to any music yet, but I’m sure that will change shortly.  My next update will be at 1:00 pm.
