  • I finished the Crater Lake trail on Walking 4 Fun and now I’m walking the Trans-Catalina trail.
  • The air quality improved immensely this week, but it’s supposed to get bad again this weekend.  I’m glad I was able to get quite a bit of walking over the past few days.
  • If you have a FitBit, you can find me HERE.
  • Active Days: 6/7
  • Steps: 31,096/40,000
  • Miles: 12.73
  • Total Miles: 402.43

Monday’s Minutes

“Monday’s Minutes” is a weekly post in which I track my bookish life.

Currently Reading:

  • The 13 1/2 Lives of Captain Bluebear by Walter Moers
  • Prime-Time Health by Dr. William Sears
  • The Envious Siblings and Other Morbid Nursery Rhymes by Landis Blair
  • Lemony Snicket: The Unauthorized Autobiography by Lemony Snicket

Finished:

  • The End by Lemony Snicket
  • The Big Book of Less by Irene Smit and Astrid van der Hulst
  • Horseradish by Lemony Snicket

Total pages read this week: 832

Total books for the year: 59 of 85. I finished “A Series of Unfortunate Events”, and the Boyfriend and I also finished the show on Netflix. As you can see, I’m now working my way through the other related books. I ordered The Beatrice Letters and will hopefully have it in my hands by the time I finish The Unauthorized Autobiography. It’s not a huge deal if I don’t, since it’s not like I don’t have plenty of other books I can read until then.

I might have mentioned this already, but I’m trying to finish “A Series of Unfortunate Events” so that The Boyfriend and I can watch the final season of the show on Netflix. I stayed up a little bit past my normal bedtime last night just so I could finish The Penultimate Peril.

Total books for the year: 55 of 85. Happy Labor Day! There’s another heatwave where I live, so I’m thankful for the extra day off from work. The Boyfriend and I also adopted a kitten so that Dresden will have a friend, but he’s very shy. He’s nearly 4 months old, and he found the tiniest, quietest spot in the bedroom closet.

Total books for the year: 53 of 85. Tomorrow is the first day of #FrightFall and #SomeithingWickedFall, and I got so excited about it that I went to a bookstore on Saturday and bought The Folcroft Ghosts and The Haunting of Gillespie House, both by Darcy Coates. I started reading The Folcroft Ghosts while I sipped on a smoothie. I had read highly positive reviews of some other books by Coates, but I wasn’t expecting it to be as good as it was.

#FrightFall Readathon!

The FrightFall readathon starts on September 1st and is running all the way through the end of October! I’m excited for that because it looks like RIP no longer exists.

There’s only one “rule” for FrightFall, and that is at least one scary book (thriller, mystery, Gothic, etc.) has to be read during the readathon.  Since that’s pretty much the only kind of books I read during this time of year, I’m good to go.

FrightFall is also a part of #SomethingWickedFall, and this year it includes a read-along of The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins. I’ve had this book on my TBR for years, so I’m looking forward to finally reading it. The focus is on Gothic fiction during September and Horror during October, so I’ve divided up my TBR stack accordingly.

September:

  • The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins
  • Jackaby by William Ritter
  • A Free Man of Color by Barbara Hambly
  • Tales of the Peculiar by Ransom Riggs
  • Rose of Fire by Carlos Ruiz Zafon
  • The Shadowland by Elizabeth Kostova
  • The Witch of Ravensworth by George Brewer
  • Nevermoor by Jessica Townsend
  • The Grim Grotto by Lemony Snicket
  • Practical Magic by Alice Hoffman

October:

  • Sunshine by Robin McKinley
  • A Leaf on the Wind of All Hallows by Diana Gabaldon
  • That Risen Snow by Rob E. Boley
  • The Priest Hole by Amy Cross
  • From the Dust Returned by Ray Bradbury
  • The Screaming Staircase by Jonathan Stroud
  • Resthaven by Erik Therme
  • 20th Century Ghosts by Joe Hill
  • We Sold Our Souls by Grady Hendrix

Obviously, I won’t be finishing all of these books, but I want options. Lots of options. This isn’t even the complete list, which can be found HERE on Goodreads.
