#FitReaders Check-In

  • This check-in is for October 29th – November 4th.
  • My new job is the most physically active office job I’ve ever had, and, so far, I really enjoy the work and the people I work with.
  • If you have a FitBit, you can find me HERE.
  • Active Days: 2/5
  • Steps: 47,387
  • Miles: 19.43
  • Total Miles: 546.31/1,000

Monday’s Minutes

“Monday’s Minutes” is a weekly post in which I track my bookish life.

Currently Reading:

  • World War Z by Max Brooks
  • The Cabin at the End of the World by Paul Tremblay
  • The Sundial by Shirley Jackson

Challenges:

#ShelfLove – 49 of 51 books from my TBR.

Total pages read this week: 255

Total books for the year: 73 of 90.

#RIP is now over, and while I didn’t finish any more books or make anymore Bingos, the Boyfriend and I watched “The Shining” on Friday and “Crimson Peak” on Saturday after we finished “Brand New Cherry Flavor.” I started a new job on Monday, and while I could read during my 30-minute lunch, I get along really well with my coworkers and have spent my lunchtime chatting with them while I eat instead.

#FitReaders Check-In

  • This check-in is for October 22nd – 28th.
  • I started a new job on Monday, so while my steps are down a bit this week, I’ll soon be getting a lot more thanks to there being no parking where I work.  I found a parking garage with a decent monthly pass that is a couple of blocks away, so I’ll be hoofing it back and forth to the office most days.
  • If you have a FitBit, you can find me HERE.

  • Steps: 33,707
  • Miles: 13.78

I finally got a Bingo for RIP, and not only did I get one, but I got two, thanks to Meddling Kids and The Sweet Far Thing. I’m reading the group book now, The Sundial, but I don’t know if I’ll be able to finish it before the 31st. In other book-related news, I’m only 2 books from meeting my Shelf Love challenge goal.

Dewey’s 24-Hour #Readathon – Final Update

Dewey's Readathon_Pocketwatch_Bellezza

Another Dewey’s 24-Hour Readathon is over. Not long after my 2nd update, I ended up falling asleep on the couch, right around the time that there was a break in the tension in The Cabin at the End of the World by Paul Tremblay.

  • Total Pages Read: 590
  • Total Time Read: 10 hours, 12 minutes
  • Books Read: How to Survive a Horror Movie by Seth Grahame-Smith, Poison for Breakfast by Lemony Snicket.

Closing Survey

  1. How would you assess your reading overall? I did really well, up until I fell asleep.
  2. Did you have a strategy, and if so, did you stick to it? My strategy was to stick to a small stack of physical books with the exception of one audiobook I had already started the day before.
  3. What was your favorite snack? The kolaches the Boyfriend got for us in the morning.
  4. Wanna volunteer for our next event? Maybe.

See you next #Readathon! 🙂

Dewey’s 24-Hour #Readathon – Update 2

Dewey's Readathon_Pocketwatch_Bellezza

We’re 16 hours into Dewey’s 24-Hour Readathon, and I still haven’t fallen asleep, not even a little. I am starting to get a little tired, but The Cabin at the End of the World is keeping me wide awake!

  • Pages Read: 206
  • Books Read: Poison for Breakfast by Lemony Snicket, World War Z by Max Brooks, and The Cabin at the End of the World by Paul Tremblay.
  • Time Read: 4 hours and 13 minutes
  • Yummy in my Tummy: I had a huge turkey dinner with mashed potates, mac and cheese, cranberry sauce, and a couple of rolls, and I haven’t eaten anything since because I’m stuffed!

Until my final update, at 8 am, I’ll be finishing The Cabin at the End of the World and hopefully starting another book from my stack.

Whether you’re participating in the readathon or not, what book(s) are you currently reading?

Dewey’s 24-Hour #Readathon Mid-Event Survey

Dewey's Readathon_Pocketwatch_Bellezza

Here are my answers to the Dewey’s 24-Hour Readathon Mid-Event Survey!

1. What are you reading right now? I just started The Cabin at the End of the World by Paul Tremblay
2. How many books have you read so far? 2
3. What book are you most looking forward to for the second half of the Readathon?  I’m hoping to at least start The Sundial by Shirley Jackson, but I’m also really looking forward to The Mist by Stephen King.
4. Have you had many interruptions? How did you deal with those? Only 1 interruption so far, when the Boyfriend asked me to go with him to pick up dinner. Not a big deal, since I continued to read while I waited in the car.
5. What surprises you most about the Readathon, so far?  How I haven’t gotten sleepy at all yet, not even a little, despite being awake since 6am.

Dewey’s 24-Hour #Readathon – Update 1

Dewey's Readathon_Pocketwatch_Bellezza

The first 8 hours of Dewey’s 24-Hour Readathon have passed and I haven’t fallen asleep on the couch even once!  Instead, I’ve enjoyed several delicious foods and a couple of wonderful books.

  • Pages Read: 296
  • Books Read: How to Survive a Horror Movie by Seth Grahame-Smith, Poison for Breakfast by Lemony Snicket
  • Time Read: 5 hours and 20 minutes
  • Yummy in my Tummy: I had a giant cup of tea, a vanilla yogurt, and a couple slices of cinnamon chip toast with butter for Breakfast. Then I had an egg and sausage kolache for Second Breakfast. I had a blueberry kolache and another giant cup of tea for Elevenses. Then I had the leftover Cajun chicken salad I had in the fridge from yesterday for Lunch, and a snack of grapes, crackers, cheese, almonds, and apricot slices. Later, I had another snack of peanut butter pretzels. I’ve also been drinking plenty of sparkling water.

Until my 2nd update, at midnight EST, I’ll continue reading the remaining books from my TBR stack and, at some point, hopefully, I’ll listen to at least a little bit of World War Z by Max Brooks.

Dewey’s 24-Hour #Readathon

Dewey's Readathon_Pocketwatch_Bellezza

Dewey’s 24-Hour Readathon has officially started!  I’ve been awake since around 6 am, thanks to both of our cats deciding that the Boyfriend and I needed to be awake. I’ve got my huge cup of tea and I’m set up in the den on our super comfy couch to read while I eat my cinnamon chip toast with a little bit of butter.

My first book of the readathon is How to Survive a Horror Movie by Seth Grahame-Smith. While I still have my pile of books, I’m trying something a little different this time and pulled 9 physical books from the list by length. So, in theory, I’ll only be reading shorter books from my shelves instead of books from any other format, with the exception of one audiobook I already started yesterday, World War Z by Max Brooks. I’ll be posting updates here every 8 hours.

My #Readathon TBR stack
  • What fine part of the world are you reading from today? I’m in Columbus, OH.
  • Which book in your stack are you looking forward to the most? Poison for Breakfast by Lemony Snicket.
  • Which snack are you looking forward to the most? I went to Trader Joe’s and bought all.the.snacks. Their peanut butter pretzel bites are my fave, but I also got a bag of their rice cracker mix, a package of fig cookies, and so many other yummy things!
  • Tell us a little something about yourself!  I recently moved into the main part of my house, out of the attached guest house, after the renovation was finally finished, and I’ve been spending the past week getting everything put away and set up so that I don’t have to do anything but relax and read this weekend.
  • If you participated in the last readathon, what’s one thing you’ll do differently today? As mentioned above, I’ve selected a small stack of books from my physical TBR, based on length, that I will attempt to stick to for this readathon. I don’t know if it will work, or if I’ll veer off into my Kindle or one of several audiobook apps I have on my phone, but we’ll see. I also have an hourly reading goal of at least 30 minutes per hour (so hopefully I’ll read for 12 hours of the readathon) and an overall reading goal of 700 pages.

My first update will be at 4 pm.  I’ll be tracking how many pages I read and any books I finish.  I’ll also include snacks I’ve nommed, and any music I’ve listened to while reading.

#FitReaders Check-In

  • This check-in is for October 15th – 21st.
  • We’re moved into the house and have most of our stuff out of the guest house.  I also spent a lot of time unpacking boxes that have been in our garage since we closed on the house and finding homes for everything.
  • Tomorrow is Dewey’s 24-Hour #Readathon, and then on Monday I start my new job, so I’m not doing anything other than reading and enjoying my weekend (other than laundry, anyway).
  • If you have a FitBit, you can find me HERE.
