Building the Book Fort

“Building the Book Fort” is a weekly post where I track my bookish life.

Currently Reading:

  • The Final Trade by Joe Hart
  • How to Invent Everything by Ryan North
  • Something Rotten by Jasper Fforde

Total pages read this week: 308

Total books for 2022: 50 of 85.

I feel like this was a slow reading week, even though I turned 308 pages. I didn’t finish any books, so maybe that’s why. It may also be partly because I’m struggling to get through How to Invent Everything. It’s interesting, but it’s definitely not action-packed. It’s more of a humorous history of civilization through our inventions. I’ve gotten about halfway through it, so hopefully, I’ll be able to finish it in a couple of weeks.

#FitReaders Check-In

  • This check-in is for July 15th – 21st.
  • I think I’m back to “normal.”  I’ve got energy, there are things I want to do, and I’m planning on combining those two elements to accomplish some stuff this weekend.  Hopefully, my mood, body, and the weather will all cooperate. *fingers crossed*

Finished:

  • The Ruby’s Curse by Alex Kingston

With six books finished for #SciFiSummer, I’ve achieved my goal of “Viper Pilot.” I will of course keep reading Science Fiction throughout the rest of the challenge, which doesn’t end until September 21st, but I don’t know if I’ll be able to finish the five books I would need to get “Jedi.”

Total pages read this week: 1109

Total books for 2022: 49 of 85.

Five books finished for #SciFiSummer! I’m only one book away from achieving my goal of “Viper Pilot.” I owe it all to a long weekend and then a week of being too sick to do anything else but read when I wasn’t sleeping.

#FitReaders Check-In

  • This check-in is for July 1st – 7th.
  • What was supposed to be a weekend that was as relaxing and low-key as possible turned into me taking care of the boyfriend who got really sick, dealing with the neighbors’ fireworks until after 2 am every night, and then getting really sick myself.
  • I finally was back to normal enough to go to work yesterday, but other than that, I have been in bed, eating soup and crackers, and drinking 7UP and watered-down Gatorade.

  • All Systems Red by Martha Wells
  • Never Fade by Alexandra Bracken

Total pages read this week: 416

Two books finished for #SciFiSummer! If I manage to keep this up, I might get “Jedi” (11 to 15 books). Illuminae is a bit of a chunkster, though, so it’s going to take a while to finish. That’s why I chose “Viper Pilot” (6 to 10 books). I want to be able to enjoy longer books and not deliberately stick to the shorter ones to reach a lofty goal.

#FitReaders Check-In

  • This check-in is for June 24th – 30th.
  • I got the house cleaned up last weekend as planned, and then I had the house to myself (and the cats) for most of the week, and it was so nice not having any chores to do other than the dishes!
  • As my long-time readers will know, July 4th (and now the days leading up to the holiday, thanks to my neighborhood’s love of all things that go boom) is stressful for me.  I’ve been out of the Army for a decade and still wearing noise-canceling earbuds/headphones at the first sign of fireworks. To help keep my stress levels down, I’m keeping things lowkey this weekend by doing a lot of reading.

#SciFiSummer got off to a great start as soon as I finished the two non-Sci-Fi books I had been reading. I plan to finish All Systems Red today, but I’m not sure what book from my TBR pile I’ll choose after that.

#FitReaders Check-In

  • This check-in is for June 17th – 23rd.
  • I’ve let the chores around the house go for too long, so this weekend is going to be dedicated to getting everything back in order.  I’ll probably be racking up the active minutes.
