Dewey’s 24-Hour #Readathon Mid-Event Survey

Dewey's Readathon_Pocketwatch_Bellezza

Here are my answers to Dewey’s 24-Hour Readathon Mid-Event Survey!

1. What are you reading right now? I’m in the middle of Pet Sematary by Stephen King
2. How many books have you read so far? 3
3. What book are you most looking forward to for the second half of the Readathon?  I’m hoping to get to The Witches by Roald Dahl before I get too tired to stay awake, but I want to finish Pet Sematary first.
4. Have you had many interruptions? How did you deal with those? I think this is the first readathon I’ve done and not had a single interruption! I’ve probably jinxed myself now, and I’m sure the cats will start bugging me for attention until I finally go to bed.
5. What surprises you most about the Readathon, so far?  I’ve been yawning a lot, despite getting up to stretch and walk around every hour and going on a longer walk in the park while I listened to audiobooks.

Dewey’s 24-Hour #Readathon

Dewey's Readathon_Pocketwatch_Bellezza

Dewey’s 24-Hour Readathon has officially started!  The cats let me sleep until my alarm went off this morning at 7:30, which is not normal for them, but I’m not complaining! I’ve got a large cup of tea and I’m set up in the den on the couch to read while I eat some pumpkin spice oatmeal (doctored with a bit of very tart green apple), and a yogurt.

My first book of the readathon is Seven Feet Under by Matthew Weber. I’ve still got my pile of books, but I’m probably going to be listening to more audiobooks than I usually do during readathons. I’m trying to be more active whenever my back lets me, and the weather is supposed to be nice today, so I’m hoping to get outside for a long walk at the park. I’m also going to only do this opening post and a closing/wrap-up post instead of my usual 8-hour updates, but I might do the mid-event survey.

  • What fine part of the world are you reading from today? I’m in Columbus, OH.
  • Which book in your stack are you looking forward to the most? The Witches by Roald Dahl.
  • Which snack are you looking forward to the most? I made pumpkin spice oatmeal chocolate chunk cookies from a mix I bought at Trader Joe’s, and I’ve been holding off on eating all of them so I could snack on them during the readathon.
  • Tell us a little something about yourself! Here’s a fact that I don’t think I’ve ever written about on this blog before: I’m a Grandma! I have two grandsons, one who just recently turned 2, and the other is a newborn.
  • If you participated in the last readathon, what is one thing you’ll do different today? As mentioned above, I’ll be listening to more audiobooks, moving around more (as I’m able), and posting fewer updates. I’ll still be posting to my social media accounts, though.

Whether you’re participating in the readathon or not, what book(s) are you currently reading?

I’ve finished 10 books for Readers Imbibing Peril, and while I was stuck at home, I distracted myself from the pain I was in by watching several episodes of “Supernatural”. The Boyfriend and I also watched the movie “Day Shift,” which was pretty good for a not-serious vampire movie.

#FitReaders Check-In

  • This check-in is for October 7th – 13th.
  • Thanks to my back, I had to take 2 days off from work, and I barely made it through the rest of the week.  I have doctor’s appointments set up for Monday and Tuesday, and I’m really hoping those appointments result in me being in less pain.

I’ve finished 6 books for Readers Imbibing Peril, and the Boyfriend and I watched the movie “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark.” It is NOT a kids’ movie. I’m pretty sure it was made for us grownups who read those stories and looked at those horrifying illustrations when we were kids because the movie brought those illustrations to life! It was sufficiently creepy and I highly recommend it.

#FitReaders Check-In

  • This check-in is for September 30th – October 6th.
  • My pain level has not gotten any better, and I’m probably going to have to start using a heating pad at night.  I did manage to go walking around The Book Loft with my BFF (who was visiting briefly on her way to do the Army 10 Miler in D.C.) and then eat lunch at an amazing German restaurant. However, I’m glad I took my pain meds with me because I had forgotten to take them in the morning before we headed to the bookstore, which has a lot of stairs.

I’ve finished 4 books for Readers Imbibing Peril. I’ve also watched several episodes of “Supernatural,” and the Boyfriend and I finally got around to watching “Ash vs. Evil Dead.” We also had waffles yesterday morning for breakfast while watching the new “The Munsters” movie on Netflix. It was awesome and I highly recommend it! On top of that, I desperately needed a trip out of the house to do something other than run errands, so I went to a couple of bookstores yesterday. I stocked up on a ton of RIP-worthy reads! I know, I know, I already have over a hundred books on my RIP TBR, but I couldn’t help myself. There were so many great books that have been on my wishlist for a while and a couple of others that looked too good to pass up! I’ll be getting them added to my TBR sometime today.

#FitReaders Check-In

  • This check-in is for September 23rd – 29th.
  • I’ve had too much back pain and been too tired to keep up with the plank challenge.  I only got a little more than halfway to 120 minutes.  I hope they’ll do the same challenge next year because I would really like to have another chance to make it.

I finished The Final Trade the night before the end of #SciFiSummer, and with that, I became a wibbly-wobbly Time Lord! The Summer has officially regenerated into Autumn, and now I can really dig in deep to the creepy-crawly, spooky fun of Readers Imbibing Peril! The narrator of The Turn of the Key, Imogen Church is hitting that spot just right, and I almost wish I had waited until the middle of the night during next month’s #Readathon to listen to it. I’ve been enjoying her stellar narration so much that I looked up all of the other audiobooks she has narrated and bought one that happened to be on my wish list (Lost For Words by Stephanie Butland). I won’t be listening to it until after #RIP, but I am looking forward to it.

  • This check-in is for September 16th – 22nd.
  • The first day of Autumn was this week, and with it came cooler temps, which was excellent, and rain, which wasn’t so great, but it wouldn’t be Fall without some rain-induced back pain now would it? *Sigh*
