*Due to Bout of Books, I’ve decided not to do Thursday’s Things, or Friday’s Fairy Tales this week, and I’ll also wait until next week to write up my reviews. However, I’ve got an author interview scheduled for Saturday, so be on the look out for that!

140. I had to put down Feast of Fates by Christian A. Brown yesterday, and take a break from reading all together, after 2 back to back gruesomely violent scenes. I don’t know if I’m going to pick it back up, but if I do, and I end up reviewing it, it will definitely come with a trigger warning. When I finally got back to reading, I spent the rest of my time with The Sparrow by Mary Doria Russell, which I’m really enjoying.
Mini-Challenges Completed

You’re doing really well! I can appreciate having to take a break after reading something particularly violent – there were a couple of times during The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo where I had to just put the book down and go and make a coffee to psyche myself up and push through the graphic parts.
I haven’t read the books yet, but I have seen the original movies (not the U.S. remake), so I can imagine. There’s a violent scene in Juliet Marillier’s ‘Daughter of the Forest’ that made me put the book down to process what I had read, but I knew it was coming, and it was necessary to the story. However, with Feast of Fates, the scene came out of nowhere, and not only was it horrifically violent, but I’m questioning whether or not it was necessary, which is why I don’t know if I’m going to continue.
Yikes. I’ve definitely seen films and read books (though of course I can’t think of any examples at the moment!) where an especially violent scene has come out of nowhere and seemed totally unnecessary to the plot and it’s always really jarring at least. I can totally sympathise with considering not continuing.
Oh, The Sparrow… I wanted to like it more than I did. It’s been a while since I read it and might like to give it another shot.
